View Full Version : Sportbike riders around Wellington?

Hi folks,

I am new to NZ and in this forum. I am in the late 20ies and a friendly open minded guy from Europe and love to ride sportive bikes in a sportive way.

So I am looking for some friendly guys who could show me some nice tracks around Wellington or further up/down on some tours.

I just got my GSX-R 1000 K7 two weeks ago. I already "found" the Rimatakas, and really like them. But riding alone is quite boring after a wile.

Would be nice to get some replies of people how like the sportive way of motorcycling.

See ya!

Hi and Welcome!

I would recommend MotoTT's trackdays in Taupo if you're into sporty riding.

Greatings HD, (poor name choice there mate).

The TRTNR will start up pretty soon on Thursday nights, once daylight saving comes around.

Usually an "orderly and sedate" blat out to Featherston, but sometimes other twisties are selected. Great way to meet the natives and organising other rides.

We used to meet at MAungaraki, but the palce is a bomb site at the moment so I guess we'll be back at the elephant pond just over the belmont bridge by Avalon park.

Keep your eye out for the TRTNR thread popping up with details and PM me, Dean, Drew, Jimbo600 (if he can be bothered coming), Flame, Tony and C, or anyone else in the thread who sounds like a decent bloke or blokette for details.

Hi there, welcome to NZ and KB. The folks around Welly are all pretty cool people (modest too), definitely rock up to one of the TRTNRs when they start up again or just sit up at the summit of the Rimutakas on a fine day for about half an hour and I'm sure you'll meet some of the friendly locals!

Welcome to NZ.
There are also Wed night cruisy rides once the clocks change. And also the Sunday Morning sedate tootle for brunch followed by a go your own way with like minded folk blat.

You will always find lots on here who are willing to just head out in a general direction and just keep on going.....

Hi Guys,

thanks for all the replies. Some questions? for what is the acronym TRTNR standing for? Are the evening night rides posted here in the forum / the calender?

Thanks for the like to the Taupe race track http://www.motott.co.nz/. Sounds great, exactly what I am looking for!

Would be cool to catch up with some of you guys!

Cheers

As long as you aren't looking for dirt tracks to ride up you will probably find what you are looking for on "The Real Thursday Night Ride" (TRTNR)
Welcome along.

Thanks for the explanation, I always try to avoid all kind of dirt when I am on a blast with my bike... So I hope that I am in the right biker category here!?!

Cheers

I can also recommend Victoria Motocycle Club'c winter series, outside Palmerston North, Manfield. Come up next round, 27/28 September, and have a look. Quite a few of us here are on the race track, so pop by and say hello!

Where are you from?

As FatJim said, hook up with him, Deano and their crew. They're a good bunch to ride with. They are quick but safe and they know all the roads. Plus they don't get out of bed too early either.

Hi Johan,

sounds tempting, "unfortunately" I am on leave at the end of September, so I cant make it to see you at Manfield. Do you have any other meetings / rides in the upcoming weeks / weekends?

I am from Wellington central. Or did you mean my home country? I am coming from the only country in the world where you don't have a speed limit on the highways... That is why I need a racetrack here in NZ... And due to the fact that it is much saver...

@Henry, I will try to catch up with the guys from the TRTNR, once I find the date here on the HP.

I imagine the first TRTNR will be the first Thursday in October (2nd). meet 6-6:30pm at Avalon Park in Lower Hutt.

Wow.....I can only imagine how cool that must be to have no speed limit on a highway. Wish our gov't allowed that, then we wouldn't have to play dodgems with sheep and cowpoo on the back roads lol.

Welcome to NZ. Look forward to meeting ya. There are some truely awsome bikers around this place.

TRTNR is usually a hoot. We also head out most weekends on a Sunday when not at the track. So PM us, (Deano, Drew, Fatjim, Jimbo600 or me) and come along :woohoo:

hey hd, the only time i was there i was stuck in a crappy old VW polo so even if the speed limit was 120 i wouldnt have been able to break it!

heres a quick run down of the weekly rides.

The Cruisy Wednesday Night Ride (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=57104) - normally pretty cruisy nice ride. normally heads up over the tukas but depends on weather. other times might head around Grays Rd and to Sand Bar Plimmerton.

The Real Thursday Night Ride (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=23580) - no idea what happens on these as the guys are too fast for me :bye: but maybe sounds a bit more what your after.

The Cruisy Sunday Morning Ride (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=71464) - Says it replaces the Wednesday Night Ride but seems to keep going at the same time. All Sunday rides ive been on have been bloody good.

to be fair all the rides ive been on have been bloody good, theres a good bunch of people on here.

by the way, welcome to the site.

Well, pull your finger out and get posting! Even a rubbish post (like this one) counts towards your total!

Hey ajturbo,

I don't know why you ask this question :bash:, but I am definitely NOT Gay!

Strange thing, but last week a Kiwi colleague (how is not Gay) of me told me "you are only a man if you had one!", a post where I don't agree with! :weird:

@325rocket

thanks for the meeting infos!

Helldriver, nice Bike, look after it, and spank it when required.
You're in a similar position to me , I'm in Canterbury and, while it's nice to chat on this Site I'm still a Solo rider ....that's cool and I enjoy my own company but it'd be nice to do the business with like-minded local guys. ( so-to speak )

Heterosexually yours....AM
