Time to cull the fleet, again. And to reassess what I want to be riding. It's a shame to sell this bike as it's one of those rare bikes that just seem perfect for me.

This is the import Lanza model, white with black seat, but exactly the same as the later blue models.I got it in preference to a later model because it was in better condition than NZ new models which had been bashed off road....this one has had more road kms hence the higher mileage.Which may explain why I had to do the motor.

I've just fitted a new piston, engine main bearings and all trans bearings and seals, lock tabs etc, also 6th gear.Only just run in with 300km so far.It has a spare set of wheels for off road use,and a mechanical front wheel driven speedo for adventure rides, also sprockets one and two teeth down for adventure or off road.Lowering links that drop it 20mm,although the standard 860mm height is pretty low.The bike can be stripped down to various degrees very easily.

These are one of the most developed off road 2 strokes made - electric start, oil pump, traction control, electronic power valve, they put out about 40hp and weigh 125kg...and do 165kph with stock gearing.Compression and rebound damping adjustment both ends.Electronic speedo with dual trip meters.Don't think of it as a little 2 stroke trail bike - this bike can hold it's own against much bigger bikes,on or off road.

Hey Motu if it seemed just perfect how can you part with it?

Having seen marks ride his they certainly go OK, so someone should buy the bike and get adventuring.

Yeah, hard to part with it - but I need to cut down on the bikes...at least those that need registration and insurance.I also want to go in a slightly different direction - I have holidays now y'know,I can actually go places. So a more road bike that does gravel is my next project.

how often can rebuilds be expected with 90% road riding?
any pics?

The damage to the main bearing was caused by a leaking left main oil seal, this could of also contributed to piston wear. The seal could be an easy 10 or 15,000km maintenance job. They should go to 25 or 30,000km without being pulled down. How many 40hp 250cc 4 strokes could go that far without even removing the head? Finding 6th gear so worn was a surprise - I suspect a lot of highway use in Japan to have caused that....I doubt if it was done in NZ where it hasn't done a lot of 6th gear work. The gearbox oil needs to be changed more often than you would think.....probably never done in Japan if imports are anything to go by.

I'll put a few pictures up now.I forgot to mention it also has a balance shaft,so really smooth engine. There is a nice little rear carrier too.
