Well all the Kiwis are alive, phew. There were 39 with drawls on the very first day with the main cause being dust.
The four stroke 450's (sorry Takitimu) seem to be the big losers due to over heating.
Our young man Luke Urhle stated that at one rutted hill climb there were 450's stopped everywhere were as his little KDX 200 just tractored up no problems.
Massage oil and especially palm savers are in hot demand with the lata proving to be essential.
Chris Birch had a not so good day losing a few places back to 90th o/all, but the big movers for NZ were Jason Davis moving to 102 over all and within reach of the top 100. Rory Mead is also on the charge behind Adrian Smith.

Nice update, they guys are doing real well, I wonder if something is up with Birch / his bike though cause his early tests yesterday were way fast.
Re: the 450's they are hot, mine's not as bad as a 4/ honda, but still it will cook & that's in NZ temperatures, thumpertalk is full of guys trying to keep em cool.

Well the teams are still intact and seem to have picked up the pace. Chris Birch has moved up 7 places since yesterday. This seems to be his tactic in most races to watch the opposition and move in the later stages. Unlike the T100 this race will not be stopped.
We have also picked up a few places in the teams event as well. Half way through and all is good apart from the sore muscles.
Luke Urhle rode with no front brake yesterday and due to a damaged disc is unlikely to have one for the rest of the enduro. But when you ride a tractor then who needs one.

I think I could change a front disc quicker than changing a tire. Is getting the part the problem? I hope he gets it sorted because that will result in a loss of a lot of time in my opinion.

Agreed.
Imagine coming into a fast rocky corner at 100kph with no front brake...
Surely they could get a front disc. Even if it cost him time penalties to fit it he would make this up easily.

I dont think ive ever seen luke use the front brake!!!! Just the rear and the gas! The boy is a survivor if anyone can do it with no front brake that smart little shit can! I remember not all that long ago he smashed the front brake off his kx in a cross country and survived and rode the whole next weekend like that!

It may be one of the "locked" items they arn't allowed to replace.

58.04.4 The front and rear discs may be replaced, but the diameter
must remain as original. Brake lines and brake pads may be modified or
replaced.
From FIM Enduro rules, the diameter could be the issue, doubt there are to many KDX's there.

Oh and have a look on the Waitamata club website, couple of vids showing how dusty it is......

[B]Day 4
Well the organisers made Day 4 a scenic recovery day. Meaning basically that they changed the course a bit as the casualty rate was getting up there. Heres an extract from yesterdays press. Some unique phrasing here! LOL
New routes for today and tommorow. Caselli and Guerrero are out of the race, Greeks remain all in. The tiredness becomes catalytic convertor of the results. ΛΑΜΣ – The Auto Moto Club of Serres, the orgnizator of 83rd ISDE had created easier routes for the 3rd and 4rth day, in order the riders to regain their power and courage, since they have reached their limits the previous days.
The natural beauty of the new route in combination with the varying morphology of Serres’ mountains refreshed the atlhetes phsychology. The passage through the river in the new special Test of Lailia, the mud and the big ruts made the athletes feel like riding in a different season of the year. The difference of the temperature from the Racetrack of Serres, where the centre of ISDE is, to Lailia reaches the 20c degrees.
The tiredeness of the previous days, in combination with the motorcycles signs of wear, were the main reason for the increased number of abandoments, despite the easier route. Falls were frequent, but no one exceptected two leader to retire from the race, due to light injuries.
Cristobal Guerrero, broke his leg, while putting it on the ground with lot of pressure.
He will not need operation, since it was a clean broke, but he must stay without to move for 4-6 weeks. We will stay till the end of the race in Serres to encourage the rest of his team.
Automatically Juha SALMINEN passed in the top of classification and of his category E2, furthermore he gained a safety difference from the second Sebastian GUILLAME. Ivan CERVANTES accepts the attacks of the American Ricky DIETRICH, today they shared the victories in E1 category.
The American Kurt Caselli had also a fall that forced him to abandon the race.[/COLOR]
The Kiwi's are still all "alive". The World team have made a move up the table and have just over taken the Poms to be in 16th.

The old bike being the only KDX there and not doing too bad as he is up to 226 overall now.

Heres an extract from Waitemata's site from Chris Birch to give you a better understanding of heart break!
Day Six
What an amazing result from the final moto of the six day! Juha Salminein had a two minute lead going into the race. He nabbed the holeshot and streaked out to a big lead. Unfortunatly one of the top Spanish riders KO'd himself big time in the first corner. The Spanish fans stormed the track and the race was red flagged. Juha again got jump and was leading into the freshly watered first corner. Unfortunatly he stuffed it and dropped the bike getting the bike run over and the throttle busted. See ya later first overall!
Next it was E3, my mission was to not mess it up. Stephan Merriman had a six second lead. First corner and I'm drifting around the corner when who do I see buried in the barriers but Stephan Merriman. See ya later first in E3. I stayed out of trouble and snagged my gold medal.
Simone Albergone ate it in his moto too and had a free trip to hospital. See ya later podium in E!
So all the kiwis got home in one piece. I finished on gold with most of the others snagging a silver.
by chris on day six
Young Luke managed to ride his bike home into 214th over all. He never managed to find a front disc so was without a front break for 4.5 dyas. What an effort.!!
Chris and Mark now head to the Red Bull Romaniacs for the 4 days test of strength next week. Good luck guys.
