Certainly wouldn't be my pick as Headliner.
"At 62, he's 4 years older than the previous oldest act Iggy Pop (58)". Iggy Pop is awesome though.

Biggest let down ever.
Without trying to disrespect Neil and his elder-status.
Thats a big Fuck no for me.
(though it may just turn out to be the event of the year for all I know)

Hell, i'm a fan of Neil Young. Anyone who performed at the original Woodstock is okay with me, i'll be attending.

Saw him in 1986? in Western Springs,he started out with International Harvester and finished with Crazy Horse, was excellent.

Being the total flake that I am, Just spent a half hour watching various recent live performances, Have decided to change my position to being interested depending on the rest of the line-up.
Though I was hoping for Iron Maiden and Judas Priest.........:weep:

Good god, what a joke! Oh well, maybe some other really good acts will turn up. I mean he's ok, but not really someone who's going to get the mosh-pit all excited at 10pm now is he?!

Ah yes, but this'll be when all the stoners will be distributing freely.

NOTHIN WRONG WITH SOUTHERN ROCK! i love the stuff...might be a good excuse to go to BDO
Gubb
4th September 2008, 19:06
Never said there was.
But with a gig that has previous headliners of Metallica, Slipknot, Iggy Pop, Soundgarden, Rage against The Machine, Tool, Marilyn Manson, I just figured there would be someone a little more ...youth-oriented.
I still boogie out to Lynard Skynard on a frequent basis.

4th September 2008, 19:10
oh maaaan there are a select few geezers that can still get the crowds goin and are worth seeing and Neil Young aint one of em!! Still i might be working at BDO so dont mind geting paid to go see him :niceone:

I was there, and it was one of the best concerts I've been to.He's no precision lead guitarist,he's just thrash gunge....and with your head in the right space it's great stuff!

Then afterwards it was played on one of the radio stations, almost like a delayed version of the event.

Only one performer can make this the best BDO yet - here he is...

I hear they are trying to line John Rowles up to support him.

Neil Young is not a BDO act, more of a New Plymouth or Mission Winery thing.
However, if he does his Crazy Horse stuff it could be quite exciting - plastic hip joint 'n all.
Hell, what other old cunts could line up for BDO ?
Nagash
5th September 2008, 18:22
Yeah, was gonna say..
I hope you're not just listening to his acoustic stuff.
I assume he'll be playing his electric items for BDO, suiting the crowd and what not. May be more the thing you're after.

Some off his later stuff is awesome I reckon, & he's done alot off other stuff with some diverse people....Sonic Youth etc ,so he could well be rockin' harder than some off you young whippersnappers think....:Punk:

sorry ... but Niel Young aint my kinda idea for a headline act in front of the target audience of a big day out ... unless they are trying to age the crows a little with other headline acts in the same vein of Niel Young.
Dont get me wrong, im a fan of Niel Young, but in front of 40,000 16 - 25 year olds (like it or not they are the majority of that crowd) i just dont think it will work. However if they got in other old school acts then the crowd might go from 16-25 to 25+ which would indeed make it a event worth travelling from Invercargill for ... Im of the opinion after going to a few BDO's and concerts here and in Japan that the crowd accounts for how good a gig is as much as the artist playing

man, if not for anyone else thats gunna be performing, I'll DEFINATELY be there to see Neil Young! by the way, not only older people like Neil, I'm 19 and I love him and so do a lot of my 19-23 year old friends...we can't surely be the only ones that like him at this age.

I'm in the same age bracket and I think he's absolutely brilliant.
Though I do agree that he's not for the mosh-loving crowd.
But i'm sure they'll be a few other bands to accomodate for that.

Damn Pearl Jam the Voodoo they used to resurrect those shambling sideburns.

Always had massive respect for Tiki and 'The Dub', looking forward to seeing him solo for the first time.
Must admit to being slightly bemused at the somewhat-attempt to make it a more 'family friendly event.

Prodigy.. god I was happy when I heard they were gonna be there.
Fun times in the boiler room I can assure you!
May have to wear the leathers and kevvlar gloves for abit of added fun.
Also looking forward to Tiki Taane, he's got a few decent songs that sound just like what my mates play in their garage. Really simple stuff but damn it sounds good.
And Nick, I would agree with you on the Living End, IF they played their earlier stuff. But songs like 'White Noise' are just fucking stupid..

2nd October 2008, 16:42
Mate, Living End are one of the best live bands on the Planet, never seen a bad show from them, from the 10 or so times i've seen 'em.
Haven't heard the new album though.

Violent Femmes
The Streets
Kasabian
Eskimo Joe

I still think that BDO 07 was the best
That was then, this is now.
If they had the same bands as last year I think you'd have even more pissed off people..
I'm actually quite excited about this Big Day Out seeing as i've missed the last two.
'07 due to a broken arm, and '06 due to a dislocated knee.
I've been making every caution to not injure myself again this year..
