As my Monster race bike has crap forks I've been keeping an eye out for some adjustable forks off a 900SS, because they bolt straight in. I finally bought some last week. They weren't perfect and needed a bit of a straighten, which was a bit of a bugger but I got a good discount because of this. Oyster straightened them for me- thanks mate.

So anyway, as they were pulled to bits in order to straighten them, they now have no oil.

Can any one tell me what weight oil to use, and how much goes in each leg in terms of volume and height? Also I'd be keen to know what the 'standard' settings are on the adjusters.

The forks are Showa USD's off a 1994 900SS.

Any help will be appreciated.

Try these guys http://www.duc.nu/manuals/ they have a downloadable 900SS workshop manual. This should have all the info you need. Not expensive either < NZ$10

Thanks! Thats a useful looking site. However at this stage I am too tight to pay for a whole manual when the only part I have from that bike is the forks ;)

The 1993 manual I have on my desk shows...

Make: Showa
Type: GD011
Tube Diameter: 41 mm
Stroke: 120 mm
Oil quantity for each leg: 440 cc
Oil level to the barrel: 108 mm
Oil Type: Showas S.S8 or ATF or SAE 10W20

compression: 6 clicks out
rebound: 4 clicks out

I think the 94 forks were the same

I can send a copy if you give me your email address

Cheers
