Personally, although I love VFRs, and this was a ground-breaking bike, and a technological showcase for Honda, I wouldn't want an NR. It's too expensive, too exclusive, and doesn't look quite as kewl today as it did when it was first released. It's also somewhat of a slap in the face given that Honda have done such a crap job of upgrading the VFR over the last 8 years. They spent a fortune designing the NR and making it reliable, more to show they could do it than to make money from sales. By the time it was sorted, it wasn't as competitive as other less complicated bikes.

But it does have some very kewl features, which were very innovative at the time, and some of which have made it on to production models:
- Single-sided swingarm
- Oval pistons
- 32 valves
- Iridium-coated screen, for the HUD system
- Indicators in the mirrors
- Use of carbon fibre
- Ram air intake
- USD forks
- Single-nut race rear wheel
- Underseat zorst

I might have to escape from Cubicle Hell for a few minutes and go and drool on it...

That is in great condition. Nice bit of kit and I hope it gets run, though the temptation would be to put it in a glass case in the lounge.

thanks for the photos: you guys are obviously the guys to talk to about my RC45 (that I want....)

tests I read said it was too refined to be a real supercar. Fast, good handling, pretty nice looking, everything worked as designed but no emotional involvement. Needed more mongrel (ie typical Honda)

Just thought I'd say thanks for being so welcoming, the bike is a beautiful machine. If you look at it in an "early 90's" state of mind the aesthetic design is just amazing. You can see how with a few refinements it would easily fit in with the best looking bikes of today.

Then theres the engine, 120 odd HP - which is what the GSXR750's were putting out nearly 10 years later. The sound is pretty unique and it really does have a nice purr to it.

Gotta say I was equally impressed by the 500cc two strokes you had in store, that RG500 sounded awesome, and the RZ looked in equally mint condition.

19th September 2008, 14:01
I would say the same: thank you for welcoming us to look at the NR.

When you said I can sit on it, I almost couldn't believe my ears.

What I regretted was when I was told "if you drop it you own it" I didn't drop it. Or twice just to make sure I get to own it.

Legend! I wish more shops would be as friendly.

P.S.
I sat on the NR! I'll never wipe my a$$ again ever!

P.P.S.
I should've taken my pants off first and feel my actual skin on the legendary seat :(
