Had my 1st bin the other night.

Car pulled out from a give way cut me off, I breaked and woke up on the road.

Car didn't stop, didnt get rego.

Went to hospital woke with a broken coller bone in two places, and a rib. Some seriously heavy bruising and road rash on my chest right arm and upper thigh.

Bike is ok, few scratches but shes all good.

Im in a confusing place right now, dunno what to with riding... Got ages to think about it.

I cant really do alot, but am very happy to be alive, wasn't even going fast but feeling when the pavement is coming straight for your face at 50kmph is something idd rather not see again.

ACC have been amazing, im happy i can walk and that the laptop which was in my bag on my back still works :)

Not good at least you are on the mend.

As to your thoughts on what to do with riding well they are yours but perhaps if you didn't hit the car they did not know they cut you off, if you managed to brake and avoid the collision you are a wee bit better than you thought and you just need more practice and a bit of time with a mentor might help or some time on a training course if you can afford it.

Good luck with it.

Yikes! What a nasty experience for ya. Take care & get well soon. I'm sure you're quite shaken from your bin but once you have healed just take it slow and see how you go. I've had a couple of bins (neither as serious as yours) and it certainly made me re-think my decision to ride, so I hear what you're saying.

Were there any witnesses to the car hitting you? I'm guessing not. Some people suck!

Happens a lot mate :(
Pleased to hear you came off not too bad considering.

About riding? You are going to be tossing that one around in your head while you are off the bike. No getting around the fact that 95% of us think about chucking it in after a bad bin. But in another 4-5 weeks I bet you will be itching to get back on your bike.

Riding is addictive :)

Hope you heal fast, take plenty of vitamins and calcium.

So pleased to hear that your are ok and the same goes for your bike. Bloody low life cage drivers who wouldnt know what it feels like to be in the situation you are in through know fault of your own. Just give yourself time to get over your injuries before make any decision towards whether you will get back on your bike riding again. Do you know if there were any witnesses to your accident?. Goodluck with your recovery.

Glad to hear your OK. I had similar bin and actually think in a strange sort of way it will make you a better rider. We all, at some stage, get to cocksure and gungho but things like this make us safer riders and more aware. I certainly was and have been since then!!!

Get back on!!!!

So sorry to read of your accident. Crummy that you suffer for someone else breaking the rules.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Bike is ok, few scratches but shes all good.

Pity it wasn't the other way round e.g. you ok and the bike fucked.

Certainly changes your approach to riding. Maybe think about the track? I tell you, lowsiding at 70+ on the track hurt way less (except to my ego) than slamming into the side of a cage at 30-40km/h.

Don't know about you but I'm happy to accept the risk to enjoy riding. I'm just conscious about weighing the odds in my favor. Split a bit slower. Stick to no more than 10km/h over the speed limit in built up areas. Use road positioning around intersections to make yourself more visible etc etc.

good to hear you're relatively ok mate.......gutted for ya....take your time in recovering, dont get pushed into riding before you feel upto it coz that might put you off even more.....just dont give up riding tho, id hate to think that an asshole cage-driver won over a biker :oi-grr:

Glad to hear your on the mend. Its always a shock having an off and your mind works overtime reliving the incident. On the plus side you will have learnt alot by this experience, observing the driver of the car instead of just the car- Is he looking at me? Can he see me? etc. A least your bikes ok and in a short while you will be up for a ride again having gained a little more experience in the art of motorcycling. Take it easy out there, remember the bastards are out to get us and those that aren't can't bloody see us anyway!

I know exactly what you're saying. I had a low speed (40kmh) high side about two months ago and although I walked away with a few bruises and scrapes my bike was pretty well munted all down one side. It has made me think about continuing riding. My bike is still being fixed at the moment and I willl admit to being apprehensive about that first ride when I do get it back. I haven't ridden for just over 2 months and I can tell you the first ride when I do get the bike back will be a slow tour around the local suburb - nice and gentle.
Hope you recover soon and get back on your buke in your own time.

Yeah. They do that, pull out in front of you. Often. Just part of life's rich tapestry.

As to continuing or not, that's up to you. It's not for everyone.

One thing you can do though, is to make up your mind that your FIRST crash will be your LAST crash. And do whatever it takes to ensure that.

Crashing's not inevitable. But it's down to you, and you alone, to make sure it doesn't happen. The other guy doesn't give a fuck if you live or die.

Similar thing happened to me. Van did a U-turn in front of me, I hit the brakes and went down. Sometimes I think I should have braked gentler and gone into the side of the van (at a slow-ish speed), then he would have to face up!

On the other hand, I've been on an advanced riding course since then and am now confident that if the same thing happened, I would be able to brake in time without dropping the bike.

So there, it's a complex combination of events, and you can't completely eliminate risk, but you can make it more manageable with training and defensive riding.

Wish you a quick recovery mate!

Recently a friend of mine in Dunedin who I haven't seen in ages was involved in a car vs bike. The car pulled out and didn't stop for him, he slammed the brakes on, threw the bike on its left hand side and rode it into the side of the car. Somehow he had flipped and they think he hit the rear wheel causing it to do so. He ended up in hospital with a punctured kidney. The driver has been charged from my understanding. My friend can no longer work for 6 months and was a big rugby and softball player. So at the end of the day, you were very lucky, and so was my friend as he's not dead.
