Hey you you total fuckwit--Yea you screaming up lake road belmont on a green ZXR400 with sneakers shorts and a tee shirt on --dont be such a total fuckwit.Youre a public menace on so many counts,Scattering pedestrians at a pedestrian crossing then screaming up between traffic.
I hope to god you aren't reading this because to be honest I'd hate to think a KB member would be that totally stupid.

What an absolute dick head! :sly:

Scary thing is that most of them think their real cool. :stupid:

Today I got my first pedestrian to admire an average wheelie display :done: Got a nice smile and approving nod from a young person as I sailed by. Do the police smile and nod in a similar fashion?

Yes the bastards, sometimes it even puts me off my food when I see a bike injured or scattered across a road! It's never a pretty sight.

Thats exactly what im talking about!
I always give the young guys shit when they come into the store without protective gear.
Some dont like it. but they have to get it through their head somehow!

its all macho bullshit, got a mate in perth with a yzf600, he's an accident and emergency nurse, so I guess he's seen most of it, always but always wears full leathers when on the bike, the amount of shit he gets from Oz bikers for bein a pussy is unbelievable, but he gets the last laugh when he sets about the gravel rash with a scrubbin brush! :shit:

jrandom
22nd January 2005, 21:45
Hmm.

Must have seen 10 or more riders today lacking significant protective gear of one sort or another. Plenty of bikes out and about, though, so that was still a minority, but... ouch.

I dont have protective leathers even been know to wear a pair of jeans and a singlet, but that was back on the states where the road surface is slightly more forgiving. I always wear the helmet since i heard about a guy having his head rolled over by the car that hit him, gonna get a nice jacket and maybe some chaps for here soon as i have the money,, coincedentaly does anybody have a suggestion for some good gear?

Sparky Bills
22nd January 2005, 22:03
I dont care about the older ones. They cant be told what to do.
The younger ones are more likley to listen to what we have to say.
Most of them dont know any better.
Ive seen that guy with no helmet round the place.
I wonder if he has flies stuck in his teeth?

Hmm, I wonder how forgiving that road surface in the states would have been if your skinny white ass slid down it at 50mph, eh? :p

What to buy depends on your gear budget. Lots of discussion here on the topic previously, do a few searches and see what you can find. Second-hand leathers are great value, waterproof nylon/goretex/cordura stuff is great for all-weather riding, etc, etc... you pays yer money and takes yer pick...

Waylander
22nd January 2005, 22:24
sweet as thanks man and thanks for the points thing earlier ill take a look around here find out what products are good and all that
ive also taken a dive at about 60 mph and had light road rash only so im still a bit cocky as far as that goes but im not being stupid about it
cheers

Well riding over here without a helmet is illegal for one. I'm curious as to how the road surface is more forgiving in America?

Waylander

So, kinda like a smoother grain of sandpaper HAHA. Nevertheless I would'nt want my bare arse sliding down the road no matter how smooth the asphalt is ;)
Glad to hear that you are looking to get some gear though :niceone:

I get completely frustrated by the guys I see wearing next to nothing. I've seen 1 guy around Wellington city on 2 seperate occasions wearing shorts, t-shirt and those slip in sandals!! WFT!! How could ya even change gears properly.

It sounds like the guy Frosty is speaking of is stupid and dangerous though.

Dude Please listen up
Noone gives a flying toss where you're from. Stupid is stupid.
My opinion re riding gear is different from what i actually do myself.
Minimum riding gear I'd suggest would be -Full faced helmet or MX helmet and goggles, leather gloves that cover your wrist.Boots that cover at least to the ankle bone, decent weight trousers. A jacket with elbow and shoulder scrape protection.
With that gear on you have a chance of not loosing skin
I ride mostly with full leathers ,bike boots, quallity gloves and helmet and a back protector.
Ive fallen of twice recently on the track and on the road and both times the quality of my gear was what saved me from serious injury.
Ohhh and hey--welcolm to motorcycle heaven.

Not sure about the full helmet thing im kinda pratial to the beanie hemets cause i like feeling the wind, but with the bugs and stuff hitting me in the face all the time i think im gonna start wearing my full helmet more. I have a leather jacket that i wear with me all the time here if not for the protection but for the fact that it gets colder at night here. Anyway im still looking for better gear hopefully a jacket with the shoulder, back and elbow protection like you said. and some leather pants now not chaps with the knee protection and maybe some new boots and gloves. Got a laundry list of stuff i need to get but right now i dont have the money

Coming up the NW just now and was passed by a sportsbike - he had a sweatshirt, sleeves pushed up to the elbow, shorts and sneakers, she had a very short skirt and sneakers - oh,and both had very flash full face helmets. The Harley going the opposite way at exactly the same time was well prepard for his day out - Johnny Rebs, leather trou and jacket with gloves...oh,but he had an open face helmet, what a wanker - but I know which of the two bikes riders will come off better in a crash.

23rd January 2005, 16:37
It seems, mainly, to be the ones who putt around town that do so without protection.Perhaps its too hot in protective gear for them at town speeds...Those with the open road calling seem to ride prepared, and cool. It should really be law to wear an approved jacket, trou, gloves and footwear as well as a helmet. But then some civil rights clown might take offence at not being allowed to risk his skin and massive blood loss.

hard to get proper riding gear for little kids like that, and its expensive tuff most of the time when there just gonna grow out of it next week. at least the kid was wearing a helmet right?

Hey motu don't sweat the open face lid bit -lid choice is a personal thing I can apreciate that. But after the big grind I did on the chin of my lid I can't suggest an open face.

Bullshit --baby bikie has full face lid that fits him,a leather jacket, gloves and boots.
No excuses for pillion having shit gear -thats the eqivilant of wearing a seatbelt and letting ya kid ride in the back without one.

Sounds like that guy needs to look at rotton.com to cure him of that -
he needs to see the photo under the caption "nothing gets between me and my bike" showing a guy (that had no helmet on) that came of his
bike face first on gravel who is still fully conscious.

Not for the faint hearted - if the picture is still on that site, it would be
good to print some off and give it to some of these people that insist
on not wearing protective gear

One of my non KB mates who rides a scooter thought he'd be OK to ride with an unsecured load. The load moved so he grabbed it, then it moves again, so he grabs it with the other hand. At this point the load was secure, but, who is riding the bike? At 55km/h he rode straight off the open road and into a ditch. Bike got scratched, lost some skin and reduced his ego. Well I guess shit happens and now he utilises common sense and takes the cage when transporting unsecurable loads by bike. ;)

Must have down about 200 k back and forth across town yesterday, played spot the idiot with my passanger. Would have seen about 20 riders without propper gear including one guy wearing jandels with his t-shirt and shorts. Large number of them wearing t-shirts and no gloves. There is no reason not to wear gloves period.
