Guten Tag

For those who have been following the woes I have with my bike, add another one to it. It is a 2004 model Suzuki purchased in November and low and behold, the only thing keeping it going now is insulation tape.

Was at New World tonight, went to my bike, sat on it, started it, flung the stand up, and the bike stopped. I looked down and hello, my kick stand snapped!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!

I think I am either not meant to have this bike, or it hates me!

Is this usually something that is covered by warranty? :argh:

Geez Sean, you've had some shocking luck with that bike.

Take it back to Jimmy on Tuesday, I'm sure he'll help you out.

Good luck dude.

No I hav'nt been following your woes but am suprised can you give us a brief summary of you woes?

Ps How heavy are you? in Kgs that is and tell the truth it might be a mitigating factor for Suzuki and invalidate your warranty?

I can hear your say HOW RUDE! tell us tell us!

Fix her and either sell her, or get a witch doctor to shoo away the evil sprits.
I hear a good burnout does wonders too.
You have to be the only guy i know to ever break a stand

Maybe the stand was somehow weakened in the multiple times it's been knocked/blown/fallen over?

I hope you have better luck with your next bike.

What a POS, side-stands should not break ever, even if there are two fat people on the bike leaning on the side stand.

Sell the bike and invest in a nice pair of running shoes.

Well, less than a week after I brought it brand new from Wellington MC it was pushed over by some prick on Mt Vic. Later that week I had it parked up where some bugger let his big fall onto mine which pushed it over again, when someone picked it up they didn't kick stand it properly and it fell again.

Insurance bill came in $4751

As for my weight, last time I got weighed which was just over a week ago, 86kg.

I wouldn't think so because each time it has gone down it has gone on the opposite side from the kick stand?

Well, I am getting her fixed totally, am considering selling her because I have taken it to a priest and it has been blessed. Don't know how to do a burnout. I don't think I broke the stand myself because looking at it, it seems decayed where it has broken off.

I have owned a large number of Suzukis over the years, and have generally found them to good bullet-proof bikes. The only exception was a 250. Not a GSX however, but a GT250R (two stroke for those who are too young to remember back that far). It was a real lemon, and the Suzuki warranty proved to be worthless for the faults it developed. First it blew the baffle tube out of the exhaust. Next it blew a hole in one piston. Then the exhaust clamp thread stripped (new barrel needed). Another hole in a piston (rebore this time). Chains lasted about 4000 km if I was lucky. I traded it in at 13000 km for a GT380. The 380 wasn't as fast, but it did prove to be reliable.

Yeah I think in general GSX250's are fucked from the start (whether that be form Chinese manufacturing or just plain old "bad juju")

As I've had my share of bad luck with mine and I remember someone else on here (Cheeter?) had a bad accident on one a few months back (I believe he wasn't too badly from it but the bike looked totaled).

The only reason I still have mine is I've been waiting on some parts since November from when some wank from work backed his wanky sales car into the poor (cursed) GSX while it was minding it's own business.

If the above accident had not have happened I'm quite sure I'd have sold the bike over the xmas break and had enough money to buy an NC30 that went on trade me for a whisker over $3K.

Anyone interested in purchasing my GSX (once it's repaired) please ignore the talk of curses and such.

Actually everyone ignore it as I'm merely a bitter man having a drunken rant.

Good Eve.

I agree, that rust on half of where it broke makes me think it had a crack for quite a while before it totally failed.

How close to the top of the stand is that? Was it near a weld?
A photo of the top part of the stand still attached to the bike would be interesting.

Hey Ramius - that is so frustrating :disapint: and that stand breaking like that is just plain weird. I mean I have a 20yr old bike and the side & middle stand are sweet.

Don't give up though! It's just the biker gods giving you a hard time to see if you really wanna be a biker or not.

When I had my old '87 CBR250, but was still on my restricted, I wanted something faster. So I thought I'd testride a brand new GSX250. I was quite disappointed. It was for one slower, it felt a lot less sporty than the CBR, but the biggest thing I noticed was the build quality. The switches on the bars felt really "plasticy" and unreliable.

What surprised me was the salesman conveyed to me through his attitude that this bike was not worth selling the one I had.

Also, your repair bill came to $4751??? How could they pay to fix it, when a new one is not that much more. The mind boggles...

I will say though, those are just my impressions. Apart from the sidestand, I don't see any reason why they shouldn't make a great learners bike.

Get rid of the damn thing. It's only going to cause you more trouble.

Anyone else had these troubles with a GSX250?

Suzuki outwork lots of their component manufacture and have recently changed the supplier of their sidestands. Turns out the previous maker (Custers) was not up to it, I think that one must have been Custer's last stand.

I dunno what kinda warranty the bike has got, but that looks like faulty workmanship to me, breaking on a weld like that. They should replace/repair the stand for you imho.

Don't worry dude, every bike is different, even bikes of the same make, model and year! And, IF anything goes wrong, the guarantee should sort you out. As I said, I've ridden one. They are fun, and you will have said fun accordingly :Punk: :Punk:

Oh, post some pictures now, you hear? :)

*EDIT* I know how you feel, there have been a few problems with 04 R1's overseas, and I was hoping mine was trouble free when I was waiting for it. So far, no problems so it's all good! :)

Just take it back and ask them to weld it up or replace it. Or take it to a muffler shop and they will seam weld it for $5.00. Shit happens but it is no big deal.
If you constantly run the bike back on to the stand you will break the stand over time. What I mean by that is make sure the bike is not allowed to run back and stress the stand each time you park it. We have this problem with the work bikes on the farm as they are parked on the hill and it becomes a habit to run the bike back when the stand is out to let them dig in to the ground a bit to make them stable. Leads to a broken stand. Also pays to drill a small hole in the stand arm close to the bottom so the condensation can dry.

i'm very surprised to see rust inside that break from a bike sold off the floor in November. Would've thought thats a dead giveaway for a manufacturers defect unless its formed since the stand actually snapped. I don't think Suzuki don't do weight saving on their stands by replacing steel with aluminium, especially on an entry level bike like the GSX. I remember looking at the overall weight between the 03' gsxr600 and 03 gsx250 and the 600 weighed something like 15 kgs LESS due to all the aluminium parts over the gsx's steel.

Well, took the baby into Wellington Motorcycles today. They said, leave it with us, we'll take care of it "paraphrasing of course" Anyway, bottom line, had the mecho call telling me my new stand will be here tomorrow and will be able to ride it home tomorrow afternoon.
