The lads from the hit Top Gear television show are heading to New Zealand to rev up a Kiwi audience. (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/section/1501119/story.cfm?c_id=1501119&objectid=10530940)

Irreverent hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May launched their Top Gear Live world tour last Tuesday in which they will visit seven cities in the next six months.

The motoring enthusiasts will host 10 shows in each destination with their trademark sense of humour and taste for a challenge. The itinerary includes Sydney and Auckland. Auckland dates are not confirmed but the show will be in Australia in February.

Hammond and Clarkson will front all the shows, which will also stop in Dublin, Johannesburg and Hong Kong. May has signed only for the British destinations.

Clarkson told news.com.au he believed "the Top Gear cocking-about humour translates well in New Zealand. "It seems to work over there. I think Aussies and Kiwis just get it."

Website information says the 75-minute live shows will feature supercars, stunt driving and variations on interactive segments, such as the "Cool Wall", in which visitors rank favourite vehicles.

The latest series of the show starts on Prime next month.

It would be nice to get Richard Hammond out for a ride while he is here!!!

I'd rather go for a ride with James May thanks. No innuendo intended, but likely to be implied nonetheless. How come they're leaving the clever cultured one behind?

I would have thought that May would have enjoyed giving his wine tasting skills a good workout over here... (It was suggested at the end of the Kalifornia tour)

Shit, I'd be keen to go see them live, cool show.

Is the stig coming? I'll lend him one of the olds cars, and see what he can do with them...

Has it ever come out as to who exactly the Stig is?

I wonder if it is an ex F1 driver (Damon Hill?) or if it is a mix of people disquised behind the helmet?

I believe there's a bit of information about the stig on wikipedia (iirc).

You may remember from the show that the stig doesn't take the racing line around the track. They've mentioned this a few times, and also from the guest f1 drivers they had on in a recent season.

Are they really coming to New Zealand? Or are they just going to Auckland. (this is a bit like people who go to Britain but only get as far as London and don't actually see the UK) :Pokey:

The original black Stig (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stig)was Perry McCarthy. He blew it by publishing that fact in his autobiography.

Wonder where they will be filming and how much it will cost to be in the audience?

I'll take a guess:
Somewhere with a hangar or large warehouse (for filming) and access to a track of some description.
Whenuapai would be suitable.

I agree with you JD as Mr. May is a true bike nutter. His house is apparently full of old bikes in various stages of togetherness. He likes bikes far more then cars.
