I was at the cold kiwi..... Don't advertise the fact that I use the Kiwibiker website tho. KB is not a club and never will be!(in the immortal words of Spank) ....

Exactly... and just like the Mormon Few say... you're only breaking the law if you get caught... I imagine the same goes for cheating ^^

Too right it is!! If you discount the 2 motards and the pit bikes on grounds of unfair geometry, I reckon I could've scooped it on the gixxer!

I must say I was worried about the Harley entry - we all know they're damn good at going slowly!:Pokey:

yeah i put my foot down, with a megaphoned VFR400 reving its tits off beside me.

Well we made it down to the coldkiwi again this year. I was nearly deaf by the time I got from Hamilton to the National Park.... forgot the ear plugs, the old XJ500 sing a loud song and the Nolan is well vented (noisey). What a fatastic ride down. Awsome views of the mountain and not too much traffic.

Great time had down at the Kiwi, good people, new friends, old friends ..... and Wolf..... lots of laughs at heathens on bikes and an ice fight on the last morning.

Majorly snotted off while leaveing... the track was bvery rough so I was nosing downt he grass side of the drive (as I did about 6 times over the weekend) and had a section of grass and soil colapse under me. The ground colapsed and the engine bit the top soil and I got shamefully high sided (I try to stay shiny side up) Filled the headlight with top soil and pushed it back into the ignition switch. Smashed the ignition switch into several pieces. Sat down and said BUGGER with a great deal of feeling. With a little assistance we got the switch partially reassembled and taped it to geather. We got the bike started and carefull made our way into Owkuni <sp>. Once there we straightened up the stearing a bit and checked the bike over. But what can I say ... it is an old bike..... it kept going.

We had a great ride back to Hamilton (except for the sodding rock the was thrown up by a track and hit me in the visor, snapping my head back and leaving a scrape accross my visor). Then of course I had to spend the rest of Sunday rebuilding the front end of the bike.

Had to pull all the instrments out and fit them into a new surround, repalce the headlight replace the instrament mounting bracket, replace an indicator bracket, replace the headlight surround, pannelbeat the headlight case and repalce the head light. The ignition switch was not exactly repairable.

Yesterday I priced up a new ignition switch.
from Yahama $140 - plastic topped like the orignal
Christchurch $85 - Aluminium topped
Hamilton $45 - Aluminium topped ( thanks Hamilton Motorcycle Centre)
I got the $45 one and they were willing to drop it off to my work at no extra cost. Fitted it tonight (the steering lock works again for the first time in years)

Well that was my Coldkiwi for another year and the old 1984 XJ550 is ready for the next trip.

Now what happend to the rest you you that made you think you couldn't get to the coldkiwi? (and back)

It was awesome chatting with you and the gang...I reckon the NZ history was reascertained that night

:gob: Well I tried.

Bike lost power changing down entering last 25km corner before Turangi :eek5: Duck paddle around the corner as you do . After much ignorant fiddling with things, Christian motorcycle association support vehicle turns up . Driver gets out and says "Haven't we met before?" They had transported my bike back after one of their Poker Runs. They offered to take my bike to the Kiwi, but I would have to take his bike out of the back and ride it to the Kiwi, so my bike would fit in. :gob: God works in mysterious ways, it was a 600 Motard. I'm not going to argue here ok. Managed to give my riding buddies "The learn" Got my foot down going round the tight one's on the 3 sisters. Still counts if your doin 25kph doesn't it.
Got home tonight on a bus. Got the badge, so no one is going to know about this ok . After all what can you expect from dodgy italian electrics.

Similar thing happened to a guy on a VTR1000 SP1 on the way BACK. His bike died not far from the rally exit heading towards Ohakune (he said the oil light came on then it died, but I suspect the reverse occured) so I stopped since I had a good collection of tools and after trying to get him on his way again (just where the are the fuse/junction boxes on those PoS fucking VTRs anyway? And I thought mine was a bit of a mongrel to work on but those VTRs are really built to a budget) the CMANZ van turned up offering him the chance to ride the XTX600 back to Auckland where where they both lived not far from each other while his VTR occupied the van.

'Bear' (the CMANZ van driver) and his wife Kay are good old sticks. Religion ain't my cup of tea, but each to their own. I boarded with a Presbyterian Minister & his wife when I was at tech in '91 - what a pair of pissheads!

Now what happend to the rest you you that made you think you couldn't get to the coldkiwi? (and back)I'm ashamed to say Gerble (with Humphry as tail gunner) didn't give any hint of not making it. Rattled and clattered it's way home via a rather scenic route east. Sunday was too nice a day to not do the GA.

At least you were lucking enough to have the earth move on the weekend:girlfight: Glad your bike is sorted.

The XT225 ("Bess") made it down and back with nary a hitch, despite me stalling it trying to shortcut up a grassy hill alongside the gravel driveway. Roj led us on a great scenic ride on the way down that showed me a part of the country I'd never seen before so that was superb.

We took the more direct route home in case shinysideup's bike developed problems due to the damage it sustained but it was still an enjoyable ride.

Superb weather for the rides and an actual COLD Kiwi.

Yep. Got my ticket, got riding buddies, getting my gear sorted out and looking forward to another great weekend. As always, will be hoping to meet up with KBers I've never met before and looking forward to seeing (again) those I have. As far as I know, we'll be parked near where we were last time - look for my battered black-and-white XT225 with wolf decal on the cowl and/or Shiny side up's XJ550 (both pictured on our profiles so you can't mistake them). Last I heard, Roj hasn't decided if he's taking the XT600 or the KTM520, but something of that kidney will be parked nearby. At night, look for an extremely bright gas lantern on a pole!
