Today on the way to work spotted a fellow rider at the intersection on a nice new bike.Looked a bit like a B'king but wasn't(purple and silver). As I waited for the lights he had a green and turned left.Unfortuneatly his expensive looking pillion helmet (shoei I think) dragged along the road as he leaned over.I tried to warn him he was destroying his helmet but he thought I was just being friendly and waved back, don't think he will be to happy when he gets home. The helmet looked like it was connected to where one would lock it on the bike but the strap was loose allowing it to hang low and touch the ground when slightly leaned over.I guess other dangers to bear in mind would be the exhaust, chain etc.Carrying it through your arm or on your back would be bad in a bin.

I've never had a problem - I just put the spare under the seat or in the top box. :bleh: :D

I have never used a side lock on a bike, you possibly saw a MT-01 yamaha....

If carrying a pillions helmet i either use a little cargo net and put on pillion seat, but me being a worry wart i like to keep an eye on things....

So i usually just put it on my gas tank, visor side of helmet facing towards you...

elbows stop it from going anywhere, works for pizza's to... :innocent:

i hate holding a helmet on the bike.
I tried to bungy it on the back but it still moved around.
So I am back to sliding it on my left arm through the visor.

No doubt he wont ever carry a spare helmet on his bike like that again as it has turned out to be an expensive journey for him doing so. Pity he didnt have a back pak rack on his bike for carrying it. I wonder if he has insurance on it?.

I highly rate the Oakley Tool Box (http://oakley.com/pd/4579/14953). It doesn't have a huge amount of internal space (big enough to carry lunch, a jacket and pair of shoes tho), but it does carry a helmet.

I just use the helmet bag that the helmet comes with..

It's got that handy piece of string long enough to wrap over your shoulder's and you're away.

Looked like a wee lass on the NW this morning.
New to biking, obvious through the riding style...
But the new:

bike
leathers
helmet
boots
oxford backpack

Added to the impression!

Good on ya!

Yep, that little helmet lock on most bikes is only for securing your helmet while parked, not for carting a spare one in transit.

It looks like a good way to break your back if you should have an off and land on it.Same goes for putting it through your arm(may break arm easier).Oh well I suppose you have to do what you have to do sometimes, but not a good long term fix to carrying a spare helmet.Tieing it to a packrack etc would probably be a better long term fix.

Whilst talking about doing what you have to do.Once bought the other half some flowers for Valentines day.Didn't have anywhere to put them so stuffed them down the front of my jacket with the flower heads sticking out.Got quite a few laughs on the way home .
