Please Note: Nobody has been hurt in this thread (other than my old bikes feelings at being traded in)
Yes boys and girls, it's a new bike thread!!!
Now I'm not talking about a John Deere, pull a plough, type of tractor. I'm talking the fuel injected, fire breathing, hook a 2 tonne weight and drag it at speed, kind of tractor. But before we get to that, it's time for Krayy's inaugural kudos awards:
First up, for "Services Beyond the Call" goes to James Deuce for a number of reasons. The first being the all important test ride (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=79248) which pretty much sealed the deal for me. Next for offering aplace to stay while I was in Wellywood and taking the time to help with setting up the suspension and other bits on the bike to make it fit like a glove. And finally, for facing Heathers wrath by being late home from leading me on my shake down ride (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=81353).
Next, the "Deal of the Decade" award goes to Pete at Wellington Motorcycles (http://www.motorcycle.co.nz/home/) for (not literally) bending over backwards to get me on to the new bike with a purchase deal that I'm still reeling over. Many thanks for that, and rest assured, I will definitely be dealing with WMC again.
The "Giving me the Learn" award goes to Gunnyrob for showing me a few new ways to get home from the Cold Kiwi rally. 3 new lakes and a heap of go-fast roads to make use of later on. BTW, I reckon I was disadvantaged in the roll on comp due to a lack of a fairing.
The "She'll be right mate" award goes to Dave at Kiwibike insurance for sorting that out for me and giving me the right advice. Track days, here I come.
And finally, the "Look at me!!!" award, goes to ME, for having a brand new Buell XB12STT sitting in the garage!!
Bloody hell, what a bike. The shake down ride got off to a very wet and greasy start, but in the afternoon when things got drier and faster, I started getting a feel for what this machine can truly do, and believe me, it is a lot. It looks tall, but feels supremely agile in the saddle, and the excess of grunt on tap has to be felt to be believed. In line fours be damned, huge V-twins are the Mars to your Mercury. The Ares to your Hermes. We're about a loud, thundering onslaught.
Full review later, but to whet you appetites, heres some pics.
