Whats this one about then?
Idea behind the change in format for the Wellington’s WIMA Pink Ribbon Ride.
The Wellington chapter of Women’s International Motorcycling Association (WIMA) have been supporting the Pink Ribbon appeal with a ride around Wellington since 2004. Each year the number of motorbike riders participating on the ride has been increasing and this year we anticipate about 100. All riders are invited to come along to support anyone they know who has been affected or is at risk, or whether they just want to make a donation and support a good cause. The ride concludes with raffle tickets being sold for prizes that have been kindly donated by various motorcycle shops in Wellington.
This year, we’d like to recognise the donations made by everyone. At the same time, we’d like to promote women on motorcycles. When we approached Scooterazzi about our idea of offering scooter rides of 10 minutes for $10 – they overwhelming offered to donate bikes, petrol, their time and expertise – so all proceeds would be donated to the Pink Ribbon appeal.
So the day has grown to the following.
12th Oct at the previously known Wellington Show Building, (Hutchison Rd, off John Street).. Newtown (TBC). 10am to 3pm
10.00am All riders to met at the old Wellington Showgrounds (Hutchison Rd, off John Street in Newtown). Ride to depart at 10:30am (Route – Island Bay via Adelaide Road, right around the bays including Moa Point, Shelly Bay, Oriental Parade, then up Taranaki St back to the Show Buildings). As the aim of ride is raise awareness of the days activities, riders are encouraged to ‘dress up’ themselves and/or their bike in spirit of the day, so it should be a great spectacle! ‘Best Dressed’ will be acknowledged.
10.00am Scooterazzi and xxxxxx start offering scooter rides. xxxxx will be available for instructions as well as other experienced trainers. $10 for 10 mins. A cone course will be setup to add to the experience on the scooter. Everyone is welcome to come and try.
10.00am All sponsors will be given the opportunity to set up a marque and act as collection points for the appeal. This will include motorbikes, motorbike gear, food, hot drinks, sausage sizzle, etc. Another opportunity we are working on is, if anyone will offer ‘pillion’ rides on a Harley?? Also – raffles are sold with the prizes having been donated by all the sponsors. This will happen throughout the day. There will also be an information tent on breast cancer.
10:30am The riders do a nice loud exit for their ride.
11:30am The riders return very loudly!!!
12:00noon A demonstration on bikes.
15:00pm All proceeds from the day and from the sponsored ride to Napier by Wellington WIMA 2 weeks prior are presented to the Auckland Breast Cancer Society representative who has come down for the day.
WIMA's Wellington President, Kate Harker, says "we are overwhelmed by the support women and men riding motorbikes have provided in organising this event, and look forward to seeing other members of the community also coming along to meet the riders, have some fun and above all support this great cause".

So do the funds go into the national collective breast cancer fund,or the lower Nth Island/Wellington region collective.Seems a shame if the majority of funds are raised in the Wellington area and get placed in the national fund. Not dissing the idea, but should be like relay 4 life where funds stay in the area they are raised from.

No Bruce is/was the parts man at AFC. He since has moved to workshop manager at AFC. He is a wealth of knowledge about bikes/parts. He actually does know what he is talking about.
The only problem is that once you meet him you are left in no doubt how great he is - even if you dont ask.

absoultly my opinion and I can not and definitely would not discourage anyone from going to AFC but make sure your bike is 100% if you are taking it there for a warrent. (ie, less than 5 yrs old or you brought it from them)
