Hi all
I found out about ACC's new website today, for motorcyclists (I think it was mentioned on KB before, during its development).
Haven't had a chance to look at it myself.
Heres the link if you didn't already know...

What are some of your comments?

Interesting to note that KB is third on the links list, just after the AA and BRONZ.
Ulysses and WIMA are right down the bottom...
Go KB!

Except for KB, Ulysses and WIMA, are those others actually clubs (like KB)?
"Err, yeah bro, I ride with the Traffic Accidents Commision, Victoria Posse"?
I think motorcycle LINKS would have been a better description.
So far looks informative. Will reply with thoughts later.

Oh dear.
Be still, my delusions of grandeur...
In my own defense, I have yet to drink any coffee this morning. I obviously need to remedy that.

good stuff- looks like the sort of information that the NSW motorcyclist awareness site (I think it is) has on it. About time :)

Looks good. Only had a breif look, but seems comprehensive. Apparently the external pockets, straps and buckles on my Teknics synthetic jacket are all a very bad thing... wish I'd thought of that before I bought it.
Oh well, the wife thinks the leather jacket looks better on anyway  :devil2: :yeah:

Did you really ROTFL? I want photographic proof since you get so upset at the use of ROTFL, LMAO and LOL in conversations.
I bet you just sniggered a bit, blushed because you've been caught out, and maybe bent forward a bit and held your ribs. :Pokey:

The TV Advert "Lookout For Bikes" appears to be cut short.
Insurance links?
Related to Insurance: In the gear section how about the best way to get insurance cover for your gear, since insurance companies classify leathers as "clothing" and therefore de-value it!!! And you can't insure them with your motorbike, which is just plain stupid.
The ThinkSafe posters on the Campaigns page aren't big enough and/or clear enough to read the text at the bottom (which is actually quite clever ... the text, i mean).
Bike Hire & Touring: add http://www.nzbikes.co.nz
Nice site. Easy to navigate & interesting. Nice balance of information, ways to deliver the information, and text-pics balance good.

No. For some reason I had got the impression that Groins was in on the development of the site ... until I just re-read it now.
Will copy & paste it to feedback through the site now.

That page is for clubs AND advocates, so lumping stuff like the AA in there is the best place to put it I s'pose. :)

I agree Slim... I think they should have at least found a biker to do it instead of handing some uber-geek a coupla bits of A4 and sayin "Build a bike site"...
as for the external pocket thing... I'd rather my pocket ripped off than be stabbed by whatever is still in my jacket (about a week ago, I stopped putting tools in pockets coz I wondered what would happen if I landed on them)

Yes. My colleagues were very disturbed.
I want photographic proof since you get so upset at the use of ROTFL, LMAO and LOL in conversations.
Nobody had a camera handy, but you just say the word any time, and I'll get a photograph of myself rolling on the floor.
I bet you just sniggered a bit, blushed because you've been caught out, and maybe bent forward a bit and held your ribs. :Pokey:
Nah. Then I would have had to post and say "SABBBIBCOABFABAHMR!"

I got in late, and had to install a whacking big piece of software. I was just sitting at my desk, mesmerised, blankly watching a progress bar crawl across my screen for half an hour before I logged on.

Yes but that could easily be staged. I want to see evidence of you reading witty KB scrawlings resulting in you throwing yourself on the floor in paroxysms of laughter. An independant panel will need to review the scrawlings that caused this floor rolling incident to see whether they are worthy of ROTFL status.

No, not involved in development, although, wish I was. I help ACC employees with their computer woes which I find rather tedious, frustrating and boring most of time. Nevermind, I'm getting a salary but if you hear of any web development/design jobs going then I'd appreciate a PM of course. :niceone:

Indeed. In fact to qualify for maximum kudos in the "LMAO" award:
1. Photographic evidence needs to be supplied of claimant sitting alongside an arse.
2. Said former appendage must be spelt in the appropriate New Zealand manner. Any and all submitted "asses" will be immediately disqualified. Indeed members of the Broadminded Broederbond of Bad-Tempered Bull-Buggerers will be dispatched to show any "ass" perpetrators the error of their ways...
3. Claimants must provide sufficient evidence to convince the adjudicators that said arse is is the claimant's and no others. Failure to provide adequate sufficiency may require the closest possible scrutiny by the BBBTBB.
4. The adjudicators' decision is final. No arse-tampering will be tolerated.

A good point raised about how leathers are classified as clothing. What's the rule here about helmets? As a legal requirement it should be included as part of the bike, surely?
On the ACC site is mentions that white helmets are more visible. Anyone heard of this one, or is that a now-discredited UK-only thing?
More amusing stuff (well, not really) was the picture of which parts of the body get injured most often/most severely. Will there be legislation to change the shape of bike fuel tanks to help keep population levels up? At least the filler caps are flush now...

Cool - can you also pass on how fucked off I am with idots texting on their mobile phones as they drift across two lanes of traffic on the Auckland motorway.
And as it's ACC's duty (?) to try and prevent accidents - it's about time they made hands free telephone use compulsory in vehicles - as it is trans tasman.

ACC and Ulysses are working together to raise awareness to other road users.
If you are in Auckland you will have seen "Lookout for motorbikes" on the off ramps last year. These signs will be back in place soon for this year's campaign.
Also Ulysses and ACC are working towards the bikers being more safe with their riding and what they wear.
The web site is part of that.

Gosh, I wonder where Ulysses riders come from??? Maybe they just pop out of the cabbage patch???
I think they were younger riders once and have managed to survive.
I am one of them. Have such a bloody good time that we want all bikers to live long enough to belong and enjoy Ulysses.
