View Full Version : Jerks on bikes

Jerks on bikes give the rest of us a bad name.
Sure, there are bound to be a few aggrieved drivers seeing bikers wander past between cars stacked end-to-end in rush hour traffic (why do we call stationery traffic Rush-Hour)? And a few more who see us wizz past at 123%/140% of the prevailing limit, but mostly in reasonable safety.
But I see quite a number of yobos overtaking on double-yellow lines (having crossed them), racing past lines of cars at lights. I don't mean carefully negotiating one's way past. Like today. Some prick (on a bike) jumped out from a gas station, in front of me! Then looked at me and relative size and thought better of continuing. Next minute the prick roared down the median strip at well over 60 to a very congested, difficult sight-line intersection, zipped between two cars, then ended up behind the first car at the lights. I pootled up alongside and said, 'Mate. We get enough bad press without you doing that sort of shit.' He'd done some utterly stupid shit and gained absolutely zero advantage over me, pootling up to the lights.
His answer, 'Fuck you! Grandpa!' Luckily for him the lights turned and he took off.
A while ago I had some young gun overtake me...and god knows I was pushing fairly hard. Then he overtook two cars on a blind bend, then another on the next. I watched as he rolled his arse from side to side like a regular racer. I followed him for about five Ks (him getting ever further ahead) till he arrived at a major intersection of two open roads. When he finally took off...once again pushing his luck in front of a RH approaching car, there were but two cars between us. Oh yeah, he gained heaps of time from his stupid riding.
But I'll lay odds that every car driver this prick overtook in such a dangerous fashion would have wanted to report him. But mostly, I'll lay odds that his behaviour made the drivers think, 'Fucking idiot bikers. They should be banned or something.'
So it's these pricks who give the rest a bad name
Shoot the bastards, I say!:girlfight:

well.......... There are alot of morons on the roads. Some of them ride bikes and some of them have questionable decision making abilities when it comes to overtaking. Most of those riders usually end up injured or killed. In my limited experience on a bike (had my licence for about a year now) I have mostly encountered dangerous behaviour by car drivers. Most bikers know how easy it is to lose it..... and, therefore behave themselves (most of them) I have seldom seen a crazy manouvre by a biker........ I witness crazy manouvers by cagers everyday.
oh....... and, I am sorry he called you Grandad

In Auckland city, I guess there must be a few (and a few more) idiot bikers. Sadly, thats life. And a few more moan about high ACC "additions" to rego etc....and wonder why.
I'm glad I live in Central Otago...the idiots are here too, but they are usually from Auckland...or at least norf islanders (same thing) and we know they'll leave...eventually...we hope...

The point is, we all do stupid shit. But I try to confine mine to places where I'm the only one destined to become hamburger. It follows that the cagers don't get a hard on to dial *555 and report yet another bastard, freedom loving, freedom living biker gets his rocks off while he sits there next to his carping wife, in his cage...the HP on which is killing him. And he can't remember why he agreed to have the screaming kids which are now planted in the back seats.
And as for the little shit who called me grandpa....He's real lucky he's not now suffering a serious dose of dysphagia. I see him again. I'll get my fingers around his scrawny throat, and teach him the meaning of the word as his eyes turn up. Dpex mumbles about youth. It's totally wasted on the young. Ba! Humbug!

This is excellent news - cloning works! Katman - is that you in there?
So, lemme get this straight.
If a car driver hoons around like a loony all car drivers are loonies?
If a Truck driver cuts you up on the mototrway all truckies must be fuckwits?
If a polynesian breaks into your house all polynesians are burglers?
If a Glaswegian breaks your nose with his forehead all Glaswegians are unstable (okay - you prolly got a point with this one!)
If your wife runs off with a professional rugby player then all professional rugby players are wife stealers?
If one motorist makes a sweeping stereotypical assumption based on the actions of one biker then all motorists will jump to the same conclusion?
I think not. You're problably over reacting because he overtook you..I've noticed this a lot in New Zealand...people seem to get very aggreived about being overtaken. I need this response explained to me as it doesn't happen in the UK.
Hope your vent helped though! Think happy thoughts.

I think you hit it on the head. When they overtake someone, they are cool and tell all their mates. When it happens to them, the other person is a jerk, they whine about unsafe riders, etc., and get all tweaked emotionally. "Mummy, that bad boy was riding so bad I was afraid. Mummy, tell 'em to stop!" Too funny really!

How disgusting. A decent biker would maximise his time and do both at the same time. Filtering at 150kph is the bare minimum required.

Stress kills you mate.
What you have experienced is what happens everyday on NZ roads.
Motorcyclists will always overtake cars, in most places that the car driver thinks is a silly place, who is in danger, only one person, the bike rider.
Who gets stressed ...some cage drivers, not the motorcyclist.
Get over it mate, build a bridge, and dont let it hassle you, shit, lifes too short to worry about things like that.
Wait till your in hospital getting a heart valve replacement because you got stressed out over some silly thing like f---wit on a bike,,.... then you will know what worry is.
Its YOUR problem..don't take it home..
Now if was a cage driver doing that, I could understand you maybe getting p---sed off, cos that dude will probably kill someone innocent..soon
There is a difference.

The best way to keep threads out of PD is for you to read them logged in as a guest and not making any comments.
The technical "trolls' arnt actually trying to troll, they are simply often correcting ridiculous or dangerous comments you have suggested as solutions.
However I guess until you pull your head out of your ass and realize that there are a lot of people that know alot more about bikes than you - you will still think that they are just trolling.
Its not all news tho' DB. You own a Ho'Bag, so all the extra hours you spend repairing it and trying to keep it on they road you will pick up a ton of useful tips and tricks.

It's all relative - judging others from our perception
Of course we all think we're the bomb at riding, but even the best of us I'm sure piss the occassional driver off

Only 1/2 true. I know Im a crap rider and I ride accordingly - but yep - even with the very best of intentions we all end up doing something that pisses off other road users.

"Mummy, that bad boy was riding so bad I was afraid. Mummy, tell 'em to stop!" Too funny really!
I see your point to a degree, but not everyone takes witnessing reckless riding/driving with a wee smile and sad shake of the head. Case in point Balu and RipperRoo 92 were out for a father/son ride yesterday and a motorcyclist went screaming past them at warp speed. Balu took it in his stride with the aforementioned shake of the head, RipperRoo 92 (who is 16 and on his restricted) nearly shit himself as he hadn't heard the bike coming up behind him and the ginny mirrors are not exactly user friendly. Did the rider's actions cause an accident? No, not this time. I know I can tell my son to HTFU, but a little consideration around others is not too much to ask is it?
...
Now if was a cage driver doing that, I could understand you maybe getting p---sed off, cos that dude will probably kill someone innocent..soon
There is a difference.
And the difference is...????? Motorcyclists can also be responsible for the deaths of other innocent parties too. It's just easier to blame car drivers though isn't it.

Who needs Dolly the sheep now? There may be more Katpeople out there than we realise!!!
As far as being aggrieved by being overtaken is concerned, most of us have probably witnessed incidents where this childish mentality has been confirmed but it kind of depends on the risk factor involved. I've been overtaken a number of times on my bike (doing 120) by cars whose drivers have raced past me, probably just because they can (or may have realised somehow that it's a "girl" on the bike in front of them - oh no, that will never do). Does it piss me off? No, not normally, but if it's done then to just sit in front of me at a slower speed than I was travelling at, then Yes; if it's done with blardy great big trucks coming in the opposite direction, then Yes; if it's done ... (I think you get the point).

I have had two learner riders under my wing this winter, and fortunately I haven't had anyone get such a large fright that they headed for the gravel. I'll play up here and there, but I won't frighten or interfere with others knowingly.
I DO insist that I do as I choose on the road, but never to the extent that your rights are interfered with. If the same respect is afforded in return, then we all have a good time and no one gets hurt, bar the occasional inadvertent treading on toes, as life goes.
It kind-of is the biker way to smirk at others who imagine themselves to be in some level of extreme peril at the hands of some biker maniac tho.. :devil2::bleh: and I enjoy a bit of that just like the next person. :dodge:

Could be a case for an "R" plate (as they have in Oz).?
I would hope that experienced riders would always treat a L plater gently. Once the L plate is ditched it is a bit harder, but a GN250 is distinctive and will often indicate that the rider is not very experienced.
This will get much harder once the LAMS concept is introduced. At present I do tend to assume that a rider on a >250cc should be experienced enough not to panic if overtaken . Mind you , being overtaken by a Nanna like me could maybe cause the overtaken one to be so astonished that he crashes from sheer amazement. Unless it's a Harley of course :devil2:

Could be a case for an "R" plate (as they have in Oz).?Maybe a smaller, non-compulsory one, just so other bikers can recognise it. If people want or need extra consideration, then use it, and if they don't, then don't. If it was a huge gonky bright green "R" like the "L" plate, and it was compulsory, I don't think people would want it. I wouldn't.
