This is the first look at a stealth-mode exhaust system for the Yamaha R1, and we want to know what you think of it.

The U.S. company behind this underseat system reckons the idea will catch on, are they right?. Do you want to hide away your exhaust can, or have it proudly on display?

Nop!
Don't like it!
My favourite Exhausts would be the four pipes on the Augusta F4, and the Ducati 998 twin oval ones, But not the 999 rectangle ones.
I think the 998 exhausts remind me of my wifes breasts!
KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF THEM BIKERBOY! :angry2:

I think its a cool look. it all goes to tidying up the lines on a bike.
Part of why 996's etc. always looked so good.

yeah.. i think it could be a big improvement. the exhausts that look good on bikes are ones that have been integrated into the fairing design of the tail section from the outset, ala MV F4 and 916,996 etc.

but, given the heat buildup problems encountered by those bikes under the seat from the exhausts, it'll be a real engineering challenge to insulate the seat properly for a full enclosed system while trying to keep the weight down. best of luck to them!

What site is that from wicked? If I had a R1, I'd definetly go for that look. looks awesome! :niceone:

I reckon its almost like the back of a space ship ready to put out some thrust with the exhaust gasses aiding to the acceleration of the mighty R1.

thats a similar bhp figure (isn't BHP measured at the wheel?) being bandied about regarding the Zx-10. 2004 is gonna be a major cause of eye strain when these bikes hit the web! (new Mille, ZX-10, R1, CBR and goodness knows what else)

Underseat exhaust = good

Internal plumbing = excellent, especially for your pillion (teehee) in winter

it really depends on everyones view of how a bike should look so there isnt ever gonna b an easy answer i would rather have the 998,996, or MV type of exhaust setup thou. But of course thats wut i like not wut everyone else likes.

On sports bikes the 'exhaustless' look could be a winner. Some of the woman riders could go for the look. On a cruiser exhausts are like testosterone. Without them the bike has been castrated.

personally i don't like the big garbage can single side exhausts (01-02 mille) but the high mount twins are cool. i saw a busa with an oval titanium single can set quite high - that looked ok (and expensive), but i reckon the pick of them all if the MV F4

I'm deffinately prefer a bike to look balanced... So I don't like single exhausts.
As for the underseat option ... It will help to clean up the lines of the bike but like someone said, it's kinda like knocking of it's testies ..

I guess after a while the new look of how they are mounting underseat exhaust will grow on me. And i definitely like the underseat idea as someone has said it gives the bike the linear lines that it needs to be a really nice sportsbike.
