I want to be SARS!

Hey all,

I am looking for some specific info on joining the SARS unit of the Police. I have done the usual search of KB (the source of all knowledge) and have even gone so far as to check out the New Cops website, but there is not too much information.

I know there are heaps of threads regarding joining the armed forces & Police force on here, but does anyone have any specifics on the SARS Unit? Do you have to do the 2 year probationary constable before you can do anything about joining SARS? Or can you apply straight away?

Any info's gotta be better than what I know right now!! Cheers!

I'm guessing that you will have to join up and "do" all the basic stuff to be frontline staff, and THEN specialise after that.

Did you want to get into paid SARs or would you like to do it as a volly.
Christchurch has very good SARs teams. with the local tramping clubs and also with Civil Defence.
Most of the teams are vollies
As far as I know the police team are Police officers who are into tramping.

To do SAR for Police, you first have to be a police Officer. To do SAR ground search work as a volunteer though, you can join up with New Zealand Land Search And Rescue (NZLSAR) Inc. (http://www.nzlsar.org.nz/)
