was a good ride up the hill, was amazed how dry the road was, good drink and a gas bag at montieths, bastard of a ride back though, fogged up tinted vissor has to go:angry2: all I could see of sh58 was the bloody cats eyes in the road, slow trip:Oops:

The only thing I could see clearly was your license plate! Glad you were in front. Gotta say I'm in love with how the Duc handles even in the wet, it was only down to visiblilty that slowed me up.

Have a great ride you lot. Its a mint night for a scoot. I'm missing these mid week get together's due to offer commitments.
May be able to wangle a ride for the last one next week.

25th March 2009, 19:48
thanks guys fora mint ride. Cheers to sels for introducing me to a few of the many that turned out.

Sorry I cut out early but the thought of sitting down eating while it was still light didn't interest me, especially when that hill was asking for a return trip.

First time I have risen the takas on 2 wheels and it was mint. Can't wait to do it again.

Thanks again and I hope everyone got home safe.

What an awesome night for it.
Captain Andrey and myself went for a ride around the lake hence we arrived at the White Swan a little late. A lot of people had already left by the time we got there. Was a good little detour though and a chance to wind the bikes out a little.
The one thing I miss on the Daytona are headlights which turn with the handlebars. Can't see snot when its dark on the Taka's and you're leaning the bike into a corner.
Stopped at the top and admired the stars for a short while.
All that's left now is clean the millions of bugs of the visor, clothing and bike and we are ready for next Wednesday.

Was a great ride and an interesting trip home! Had a bit of an "incident "just before that new seal a te marua, I was bringing up the rear behind david, what he saw in his rear vision was this. Loud scraping noise followed by a shower of sparks and the disaparance of my headlight in his rear vision... When he turned and came back he found my bike PARKED on the hard shoulder and me in full gears sprinting down the road after a run away wheel... The car behind me lost it's whole wheel!:gob: I pulled over thinking to go check they o.k (was thinking blow out) when said wheel bounced past! Had some speed on it! I wanted to clear it of the road before another bike came off the hill. Madness.

I had checked that you were both behind me when we hit the new seal. Then it went dark behind me and couldn't figure it out. I was just about to turn and come back to check everything was ok when you both reappeared.

I need to remember to take the clear visor next week - Takas with tinted visor at night was not much fun. Hence every other bike flying past me as i couldnt see a thing, ended up popping up the visor and trying to fight the bugs hitting my face.

Thanks for the ride - was good to be back even tho i was very corner shy.

Much thanks for an excellent ride. That was the fourth time I have been over the hill. On the way over I took it easy (with apologies to anyone I held up) concentrating on smooth cornering. On the way back (once my tires warmed up) I let rip a bit which was tempered by my headlights always pointing in the direction of the bike (:eek:man some of those corners are dark a scary looking:eek:). It was nicely topped off by following a group of bikes through the hutt into town. Cheers and beers and I'll have to be on my best behaviour so I can come out for the last.:headbang:

If I am 'barking up the wrong tree' My sincerest apologies!

I went over the Taka's for a quick/fast blat on Thursday and I think I caught up with the tail enders of the TNT :devil2: ride! Were you with a guy/being shadowed on a green Triumph?
If so, I am the rider (2up) who overtook you on the section of dual carriageway (before the Taka's proper) and went past shaking his head.

From my perspective!

Doing 110(ish) and approached a section of dual carriageway, there was a red/black GSX250 tailing a car. The road opened out into two lanes and there was no 'physical' (road position shift etc) indication from the 250 rider of intent to overtake said vechile which was also doing 110(less ish). I went out into the 2nd lane as it just 'opened fully' and was beginning my manouver increasing 'overtaking power'.
As I drew very close to his rear he started to overtake. I admit I was doing 100 um errrrrr kph at this time. The rider may not have been expecting a vechile to close and overtaker so rapidly at the start of a dual section and YES I do accept I made the choice to maintain momentum.
Baicaly the rider relied on rear mirrors with no 'rear observation' and I would guess I was in his 'blind spot' by then. If it was you? Please, please, please read the survival skills section; 'rear observation' or LIFE SAVER and its merits are discussed there in several threads. 'All' I had to do was swing out wider and carry on the manouver, Had I been a high powered cage driver, with 'cage mentality'????

RocKai
29th March 2009, 23:09
Oh, I saw you from the shadow on my right after the overtaking, so after I hit the slopes I intent to let you slip pass and follow you on but you decided to blast me to bits lol. And up the slopes my 250 drops a substantial amount of power so I'd rather follow someone than blocking them, sorry that I didn't see you before hand, concentrated on the slope ahead.

My mirror is also not very well positioned as I always have to move my shoulder to look behind, you were in the black/blue stripe unit with someone with a white helmet on.

GrayWolf
30th March 2009, 23:27
no probs mate, was just concerned and I understand the poor mirror problem, I get a great view of my shoulders and elbows. Sorry ya felt 'blasted to bits' :bleh: Was just out enjoying a fast ride. OH and if it helps, Ive been overtaken on the Taka's by a 150.

Take it easy Rockai and learn to be smooth and just cruise =). No rush, its the road not the racetrack.

Still need my right blinker, rear brake peg. I'll be farking extremely careful this time. My pride and pocket is badly hurt now, and I'm loving my bike too much to bin it anymore, in an idealistic world.

and yeah 150's used to be the super-sport or gang-rider back in the days in my country whose parents telling their kids only outlaws ride them and wouldn't let their kids buy one. Then it became popular and everybody got one lol

What's the record amount of bikes anyway?

About 48 I think...earlier this year.

I was talking to Gordy today, of Gordy's bar in Paraparaumu. He said he would like a photo of all the bikes lined up in his carpark to hang on the wall in his bar.

There is some sense to doing the Paekak hill to Gordys tomorrow - with the southerly the weather will be better on the Coast than on the Hill/ Wairarapa
(have checked - no rain for coast tomorrow)
-With the receding daylight it is easier for folk to get home (with option of PK hill or motorway)
-Gordys can easily cater for an onset of 30+ bikers, and would probably throw out some complimentry nibbles.
Its a good venue for our last official Wed nite social - perhaps we could rattle up a few of the folk that havent been for a while and make it a bit of a party????

Nice idea about the photo, but might be a little dark by the time we're all there? Could always make the first sunday ride out to Gordy's for the photo... of course no reason why we shouldn't go there tomorrow night as well.

As this is the last TCWNR for the summer we were thinking more of the social aspect tonite - and Gordys can accomodate that.

An excellent ride to finish. I had my youngest with me; she jumped around with pure delight trying to watch the other bikes, which was fantastic, except for the fact we were going along the winding roads at the time. I though she was going the to give me a dead arm/side the amount of times she :bash: me when she wanted to pint something out to me .

In Wgtn is there any events where 10 yrs and under can go for rides as pillions/learn to ride? It'll be great if there was something organised. I know my two would be on there best behaviour to be allowed to go.

Welcome to Kiwi Biker. Start a thread. Suggest a date, rendezvous point and potential itinerary. Likeminded people will surely join you if they are able. If they don't, do it yourself anyway.

Build it and they will come.

Oh well there's always next year!
You will just have to line up a Sunday ride. Has 'him indoors' got that bike yet?

Beautiful night for a ride. Ended up just Laxi and myself, so we went over the hill, had a pint in Featherston and found a spot for the Tag-O-Rama (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=99052), then back over the hill to the Hutt. Still can't get used to those dark corners on the hill. May need to look at fitting some little spotlights which can light up around the corner and come on automatically when going into the corner.
Laxi had to go and see his kid so I carried on into Wellington to locate the previous tag.
Back home just after nine.
