How to store/preserve tyres?

Been offered a set of wets for my bike, but now the wet weather is nearly over i'm worried about them going 'iff' in storage

Will they still have their sticky silicone properties after 7 months in storage?

Once scrubbed in, does their life shorten [does the rubber start hardening]?

What's the Best way to store & preserve them?
I was told to store them in the dark. Actually the guy I was talking to about it said he stored them with his tyre warmers on them to protect them.

my wets have sat around for a while now (couple of months) and are completly flat. whats the go on keeping these happy. im assuming the flatness is just a fact that its prob got soft sidewalls but didnt know they can go crappy if left lying about.

someone had told me to move the bike to a different parking position evey now and then or you might get "flat spots" along parts of the tyre as there would be pressure on that particular point for a prolonged period of time. think the tyre would harden but i doubt it would shorten the life of the tyre.....the rubber's not gonna jump off or anything but that's just my un-informed opinion :niceone:

Take them off the rims and keep them in a cool dark place , not the roof of your garage or they will go hard as the oils dry out .

yea what he said. and move them around every now and again so they arnt resting on the same part of the tyre.

I've been checking the manufacturing date stamps on the tyres I've bought 'new'. The date has ranged from 3 months old to 2 years old! I doubt someone turned them around every two weeks or so where ever they have been stored during this time.

The rear I've been racing from round 1 at Taupo was 18 months old when I got it. It's still holding up pretty well, last time I used it was at motoTT trackday in Taupo, three weeks ago. It had plenty of grip for a fun track day, and the wear pattern is looking good and even. For next VMCC round I will fit a 'new' one.

I'm not sure what conclusion I can make out of this. I guess riding at my pace, these race tyres have heaps of grip to offer to do many laps and over a long period of time.

I still see people change tyres after each race. I guess that's what it takes to be on top.

Im keeping my spare tyres for my bike in a room that we like to use to dry the clothes every other day with a dehumidifier..
any one know if this will this be bad for them?

dark place, ideally constant temp, and try to keep them off concrete etc but I'm storing them tyres only (no rims, weight of bike etc). They will harden a little, but I figure I'll get slightly better mileage out of them.

the last set of 2nd hand tyres i bought,
my tyre fitter had (fun) trouble getting them on,
he said that he will have to use warmers next time
i definitely got my $20 fitting per tyre out of him
its like the beads shrink?
