Ok so I popped out to see Blakamin and get my front guard. Sweet as - nice and blaaaaaaack.

When I was getting petrol, in Raumati, the sky was looking pretty yuk and I wasn't sure if I should go over the Takas or not but, then my mate Stonechucker texted me and we met on the Haywards. I had gone over the Paekak Hill Rd (which was rainy & foggy) and has gotten behind 2 riders who were being very, very cautious - I think 1 of them was a fairly new rider.

Anywaaaaaay...

Stoney & I decided even though the weather was looking pretty dodgey that we would ride up to the Rimutaka Summit anyway. It was great, it was really lovely up there - no rain. While there we saw some young chap come screaming up from the other side on a 2 stroke with no gloves, t-shirt, trousers & sneakers :eek5:

So after having a bit of a chat and some other bloke pulling up admiring Stoney's bike we headed back down. Lots more traffic going down and my little bike just hasn't got the power to pull out quickly past cars and I had some knob head, in a car, wanting to get intimate with my back end. :finger:

We got down into Upper Hutt where Stoney had very kindly waited for me and we were blasting (well by my standards anyway) along the MW when my girl started spluttering - luckily I know where my cock is and a quick twist and we're a way again....oh hang on! No we're not...hey! My throttle is all loose...bike slowing down...me pulling over...Stoney dissapearing down the MW...ahhh, he hasn't realised I've pulled over :crybaby:

Yes thats right folks, my throttle (no not clutch) cable has snapped! Piss and bollocks!!

Stoney came back and very kindly waited while the towie came from Upper Hutt to pick me & the bike up (Honda Rescue! Best $30- I've ever spent I tells ya!). I'll let Stoney describe the towie.

Bike dropped off at Stoney's cos I was gonna have to pay the towie $50 to take it to town (which Honda Rescue hadn't mentioned) and then my 2nd hero (Stoney being the 1st - just for today mind you), Vtwin (who is Stoney's next door neighbour) offered his services in the form of his trailer and car to take me and the bike all the way into my place! I live in Newtown, they are in Stokes Valley!

You guys are the bestest! Thankyou! Thankyou! Thankyou!!

Soooo this leaves me with a broken bike and a Ferry to catch on Saturday morning! Help!! Can any of you kind mechanically minded blokes help me out? I'd like to do it myslef b/c I'm certain it's a small job but, I dunno what to do :o

Cheers CSL.

How about some of you BOP riders do a howdy some time (looks in mirror, realises he's talking to himself again). Must do a personal motivation course!

I spent the WHOLE day in bed. I looked out the window occasionally, to see it raining. Turns out, it was just pissing down over StokesVegas, as when I braved the rain, I found it stopped as I hit the motorway! (It was even better on the Takas, and in Featherston/Martinborough - I'm mad I missed a ride I'd organised with Jim2!).

So.......

Picking up from where CSL left off, one minute she was behind me, next she was gone. Looked around for a few seconds, and just caught a glimpse of a TINY headlight speck, in the furthest distance you can see, in my mirror.
Turned back to hear what happened (snapped throttle cable - Jeez woman, what are you doing to your poor cables? hehe). She is a member of the Honda Riders Club, so phoned the breakdown service. They turned up about 10 minutes later, I was very impressed. I think I'll be looking at joining the HRC (yes, any make of bike can join).

The towie was a hard case. He was a nice guy, friendly and helpful. He knew what he was doing to, in terms of bike tie-downs. He was just a little generous in his story telling, and story delivery :) He would strap one tie down on, and tell us a story. Strap tie-down 2 on, and another story. Final tie down followed by another story. CSL got a few more stories while in the truck over to my place. It's nice to have a friendly towie though, I guess some are not quite so helpful and careful.

For those mechanically minded, Welly based riders, it's a snapped throttle cable. You'd just need to disasemble the throttle assembly, and stick a new cable in, and thread it through the cable sheath to the other end, and attach it. Should be nothing to it.

Either get someone to rebuild the inners of the cable, get a second hand one or new. Then just install, if you are not sure what to do ask and get them to show you how to do it

...while Stoney and I were waiting 3 people stopped to see that we were ok. Maybe even 4. 1 guy on a bike, another guy with a bike trailer on the back of a 4WD and the waitress from the Flying Fish (I think she saw Dave and had to pull over!) and I think possibly another biker. :2thumbsup

Hello, my name is CSL and I'm not sure what to do. Help!

Cathy, the most likely thing that happens to throttle cables is one of the ends has come off the cable, undo ( with a philips screw driver) your throttle cable at both ends, the black twistie bit on the bars will have a couple of screws holding it together, and also the bit that links onto the carburettor, shouldn't take any longer than a couple of minutes, you will see immediately if the end is broken cos it won't be there any more, take the outer and inner cable to any bike shop and get them to make a new inner cable, or if the outer is stuffed buy another second hand one, I have done several on various bikes around here and I buy new inner cable and new ends and make my own, but it shouldn't cost any more than $20 for a new inner.

Sweet mate. It's parked down the bottom of the path on the street, not up the top of the unsealed road at the moment.

Cheers!!

Ok well I've just taken both the throttle cables off and decided to replace both halves. I was told by my bike shop to bring them in.

Fascinating but grubby work (lucky I'm the type of gal that don't mind gettin' dirty).

Sadly I had to discard my handle bar heaters, one of the wires was earthed into my head light and I've somehow undone the headlight surround and can't do it back up  Anyway I'm sure we'll be able to sort out tomorrow night.

Yeah I know - we should go for a Caped KB Chicks ride when Jaz is back. (When is that?) We should go before the capes are sorted though (or else it'll never happen) just for "inspiration". Looking foward to seeing how your bike looks when it's all finished! Yay!!! Hey - I've just realised - picture you're black bike with our black capes! Woah - mate! I can just see the lads at the top of the Takas falling silent in awe as this dark machine roars out of the mist into the summit carpark, with rider surrounded in a mysterious swirl of black cloak!

Ok well I took my throttle cables in to my normal bike shop and then I went back in there this morning to pay for them. This is b/c I have work until 6pm tonight and 8am - 7pm tomorrow and so I needed to get someone else to pick them up.

So he tells me that he'll have to make up a new outer cable for 1 of them and it'll be ready by 3. Stoney had very kindly offered but my Aunty ended up going, boy am I glad she did (no offence to you Stoney)!

My Aunty went in at 3pm today and the bloke ummmed & ahhhed and got her to come back an hour later. This was after my Aunty had given him a icey stare and a stern talk about how they had said 3 and I was travelling & needed to sort the bike out.

The thing is I wonder if I hadn't gone in this morning when would they have got around to telling me I needed the new outer? And why wasn't it ready at 3? Hmmmmm - I guess these are questions I should be asking them.

They have done this to me once before - when they replaced my chain. I arrived at the appointed time and it wasn't ready so I had to wait around and then all the issues I had with my clutch they never seemed to seriously investigate why it kept breaking.

They just seem quite appathetic.

Because I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to motorbikes I don't feel confident enough to speak up.

What to do...

I think Mr Alucard Draken should get a medal too, while we are busy handing out bouquets!
I need some decals for the newly (beautifully red) CBR600F4 but the outfit cannot send them outside the States for legal reasons, so Mr Draken c/o his sister has most kindly offered to receive the item in the USA then forward it on to NZ.
I am so happy as the ex Japan decals come at an horrific price and I can custom choose my colours this way.

Thanks again Mr Draken :first:
