View Full Version : Twist of the Wrist don't work

After nearly a year of being off the Mille, I had to get back on 2 wheels, so I bought myself an UTW (unpowered 2 wheeler).
Today after assembling it and taking it on a cross country shakedown...that shook the handlebars loose...I rechecked and tightened everything to brave the roads of Portsmouth city centre.
Everything went well until I approached the first roundabout. I slowed checking for a clear spot to enter into, then as I found it I gave it a handful of right twistgrip  This merely popped me into the lowest gears and my legs spin round faster than a randy hamster chasing a female inside a wheel. On a bicycle Twist of the Wrist doesn't work
Well at least I'm on two wheels and I guess getting myself fitter and stronger (perhaps even lighter) for when I can once again ride the RSVR. What worries me is that if I get used to this cycling lark I might try peddling on the mille

And I guess that if you ever had the habit of using the clutch to lift the front for a wheelie, you'll have stopped that too ;)

Clutch for a wheelie??? lol
Thinking about it...I guess I use the rear brake when slowing so it occupies the clutch hand...never used it for going up the box, so no probs there .......so far. :sweatdrop
I have been adjusting the preload on the rear 'shock', lucky for me there's no damping settings or I could really make my cycle dangerous to ride.

It's like when I first started driving a fewish years ago now. Had been riding motorbikes for ages before I learned to drive - kept trying to lean into corners rather than using steering wheel....

I just recently got myself a mountainbike too, to try and get a bit fitter.

Yep, I remember my dear old Dad laughing his head off as I came to my first corner learning to drive. Cars don't lean too well, and if you lean you can't see out of the windows.

Yup, the Southsea to Ryde is the last commercial hovercraft service in the UK now that the cross channel ones ceased last year. The ferries only take 12 minutes to cross now for passengers, but you still have the 1.5 km walk along the Ryde pier or waiting ages for the train so the hover is still quickest to get into Ryde.
Obviously you made the transition and lasted the pace....looks like I'm going to have to bide my time and have another attempt on NZ once I think my family are ready to stay...a bit like waiting for the right time (earning lots of money) to get back on the mille.

That might work too....lost 8kgs last year without trying....just another 35 kgs to go.

I took my pushbike out for a spin today, I went to the top of the steepest hill around here, and went down again.
It made me wish I was allowed a motorbike :argh:

nah but was getting a quite a few feet in the air over the swells and would do a respectable 90kmh in the swell that was about and about 110 if calm.
Stoppies no, but the thing will stop nearly instantly if the nose goes under a wave!

There, there. It will all be OK one day. You'll look back on these days of desperate yearning (with the jaded eyes of old age) and wonder why you were in such a hurry.
