View Full Version : Harley releases new "Street Rod"! Yahoo!

25th January 2005, 08:38
Carrying on the VRSC family tradition, the Street Rod wields the explosive power of the liquid-cooled, 1130cc Revolution V-Twin engine. In addition, the engine is cradled in a hydroformed, tubular perimeter frame topped with stylized bodywork. A clipped rear fender and 180mm-wide rear tire carry the family looks as well. However, the fuel-injected, 60-degree V-Twin has been pumped up with a pair of chrome straight-shot dual exhaust pipes that help boost horsepower to 120 hp at 8,250 rpm while maintaining its 9,000-rpm redline.
The Street Rod’s distinct styling and upright riding position are the result of a new suspension combination, highlighted by massive 43mm inverted forks. Aero-cut polished, forged aluminum triple clamps are equally robust and deliver a steeper rake/fork angle (30/32 degrees) for more aggressive handling in the corners. The change in rake and fork angle shortens the bike’s wheelbase by 0.7 inches (to 66.8 inches). When matched with performance suspension calibration on the rear shocks, the set up delivers a sporty, performance-oriented ride.
Complementing the suspension changes is a generous 40-degree lean angle and Brembo four-piston caliper brakes with 300mm dual front rotors. The Street Rod’s handlebar and risers are shorter and less swept back. Combined with mid-mounted foot controls and a higher 30-in. seat height, this places the rider forward and into an aggressive position for attacking corners. Fuel capacity of the Street Rod is five gallons.
Adding to the Street Rod’s muscular looks are standard 10-spoke Staggered Cast Aluminum wheels, while radial, ZR-rated Dunlop tires deliver the performance message to the pavement with authority.
The VRSCR Street Rod is available in five stunning color options, including Vivid Black with a black frame, or Black Cherry, Rich Sunglo Blue, Mirage Orange and Yellow Pearl all with a silver-leaf frame. Highlighting each paint option is the silver and black engine with polished covers, plus selected, blacked-out components.

Has no one told you mate. it's not the size of your hammer that counts, it's the nail you're throwing it at.
Ask Jimbo, Dean and Cycosis what the old V-Rod's cabable of on the Castle point road. None of those guys ar slouches.
Let me assure you, this thing will be a weapon in the right hands.
Pete McDonald could get around Manfeild in 1:19 on an XL883 with 50hp for christs sake!

Nice to look at, but I don't think that I'd pay that much for something that I wouldn't be prepared to use every day. (Just thin of the cleaning).
Besides I think my Dad would absolutely laugh himself silly if he saw me perched on one of those. Not to mention my dearly beloved.

On the 7th day, God created the Harley, and on the 8th he traded it for something lighter and faster.
What ever turns you on, go for it. I used to think I was nuts wanting a 22 grand fireblade. Now I know its just time before I own one...

Oh yea, also interrupted Quasi on his way to meet wifey for lunch, was good to meet someone else from here.

Actually i think it does have some track heritage :Pokey: .... the V-Rod's motor was based on the VR1000 (Correct?) which was a Harley race bike designed for racing at Daytona..... (Hence why the V-Rod has 4v per cylinder and watercooling etc..)
But i still agree :niceone: .... hardly a sports bike... maybe a Sports tourer though......

yeah... ok... thats the engine...my desmo is based on a superbike... dont mean it is one....
'specially after reading this on the vrod....
The wheelbase, some 7.3 inches longer than a 1200 Sporty, and kicked-out front end cause the VROD "flop" in corners. This trait is evident at all speeds and takes some getting used to. U-turns in your local parking lot require mucho concentration and a foot ready to be extended. That same long stretch to the front tire is probably responsible for some vagueness in the contact patch. Still, for a machine being marketed to a poseur crowd, I found the 'ROD's handling to be excellent.
dont make it a sports bike!

And a Buell isnt a Harley is it, its a friggen Buell.
Is a Bimota YB9 a Yamaha, because its got a Yamaha motor?
Is a Cagiva Raptor a Suzuki because its got a TL1000R motor?
Is a Aprilia RS250 a Suzuki coz its got a RGV250 nestled inside?
hmmmm, well?
And before you bleat and say well Harley own them, who owns Husqvarna? you dont refer to then as Cagivas do you? And isnt Aprilia now owned by Piaggio, so do we call them Vespas now?

Yep porsche helped do the finishing touches on the engine.... To make the engine reliable, harley sacrificed some of the power... Now knowing fuck all about getting power out of their engine (waits for bites....) they asked Porsche to help out...

Porsche was asked to help for a variety of reasons (listed above ) but also to make the engine emmission compliant especially for the new European emmission laws which come into effect in the next few years. And lets face it Harleys are not renowen for precision engineering are they? The poor old harley air cooled push rod motor is on its way to being removed by legislation along with 2 strokes(not that removing 2 strokes will be a great loss, smelly bloody things)( Now that should wind a few of you up oy?):bleh:
Mind you I do not know how heavy my chain saw will get if it has to be a watercooled 4 stroke:doh:
