Ahh, the brown trouser moments are the ones that make you realise how much you have, and how easily it can be taken away by some boofhead in an orange suit who neglects to put out the "New seal" sign.

In summary:

Off to the Outlaws place up past Awhitu on the Manukau Heads. Having a good old time just blasting away (well if you call 110 "blasting", but feels like it on the 'fiddy) and passing the occasional car (alright, all of them). Now heading up the heads there are some good twisties where you can really throw her around with abandon, so naturally, I'm using as much of the road as possible, late apexing and running wide(ish). So I end up behind a wedding car coming up past the 2nd Te Toro turnoff where there is a very slow 90 degree, 30km/h corner and I go down a cog or two waiting for the first straight. There it is, so I opens her up, indicate etc and off I go. 3rd gear, 4th gear, next left hander, head for the apex under power.

Feck moi! Theres a heaping helping of very loose grey metal everywhere, except for 2x1 foot tyre tracks on both sides of the damn road. Shit, there goes the back end. This will hurt. Back off the throttle a little to try and get her to stand up a bit. Thank the Honda gods, the tyres stopped sliding in the right hand track. Here come the adrenaline fairies. Wheeee!!

I think I'm gonna call Franklin council and let them know that if theres loose metal around a blind corner to put a damn sign there!

Beware if you're headed that way people!!!

Seconded.....

Was it really that much of a blind corner? Its on a dodgy back road, did you expect it to be perfect?

Back end loose isnt a great problem anyway, it's a loose front end thats gonna hurt......

On a good day with no roadworks the awhitu road on my VFR750 was magic......
Why couldn't I keep that bike near the speed limit?

I had a similar episode yesterday on Twilight Rd heading towards Clevedon. Going round a bend and suddenly I've got new seal with fine gravel to contend with. Fortunately just before that I had put a bit of distance between the dickhead in the cage behind me who was trying to smell my arse or something otherwise it would have probably turned really nasty. Had a wobbly moment and then crawled the rest of the way through the usually nice twisties.

The wankers are spreading grit and even running water trucks over the roads to stop the tar melting. Why can't they surface the godamn roads properly in the first place?
We got an impromptu shower from a water truck on the Kopu - Hikuaia road, melting tar covered with water, big fun!

There is always gravel and shit all over Twilight road, just the ammount that varies. Great little stretch of road though.

Yes but this was way more than usual - went for about 1.5kms.
