There will be a public meeting with all the politicians:
When: Wednesday 24 September, 7.30pm
Where: Methodist Church, 360 Queen Street (opposite Town Hall).
The meeting is organised by the Campaign for Better Transport and is supposed to be about what the political parties will do for public transport in Auckland.
Speakers include:
Maurice Williamson - National
Judith Tizard - Labour
Keith Locke - Green Party
TBC - New Zealand First
Rodney Hide - ACT
Christine Rose - Chair ARC Transport Committee.
Speeches will be followed by a question and answer session.
I say we gatecrash this party and ask the polis what they will do to benefit motorcyclists! We want as many motorcyclists and scooter riders as possible showing up (preferably by bike/scooter) to show that motorcyclists are voters too!
Some questions to ask:
The cheesecutters / Wire rope barriers! We want them "Gone by Lunchtime!"
Why is motorcycle registration fee so high, even though most accidents are not caused by motorcyclists?
Many motorcyclists own more than one motorcycle and/or car, but of course you can only ride or drive one at a time. Why then do motorcyclists pay registration for each bike, when the risk does not increase increase with each bike? Why not cover all of the cost with fuel taxes.
How about letting motorcyclists on motorway bus lanes and the northern busway?
How about some more more decent motorcycle parking in Auckland city and the wider Auckland region?
Motorcycle safe roads - e.g. less roundabouts with negative camber.
Petrol taxes should go on roads and not be diverted
The benefits of motorcycling are ignored by transport planners and the auckland regional council. Lets ask why?
