So I was leaving Wellington in the morning, just getting on to the motorway, hit the 100k zone and gave it some gas when.... bang, clunk clunk clunk..... lost all drive.

I was in the fast lane, loosing speed fast and trying to get to the left shoulder. Thankfully the cars behind me figured something was wrong and slowed down enough for me to make it across.

Just as I slow down some more, another clunk... and the rear locks up. By this stage I am already on the shoulder and slow down to a stop...

Looked like the chain came off the front sprocket, loosened up and came off the back sprocket wrapping slightly around the wheel.

I take a big breath and call TSS for a pickup :2thumbsup

20 mins later we are loading the bike in the truck, but the rear is still jammed.
To my surprise, the cavalry arrives :Police: Two cars, lights and everything gunning it down the motorway to get to my location.

Apparently, someone called it in and said I was walking across the motorway.... Excellent, now we have the man power to lift the bike up and load it in the truck :2thumbsup

In conclusion, big thanks to TSS for super fast response, and to the guy and girl in blue providing cover and... to all the cagers who used their brain and let me get across to the left lane and.... to whoever called the cops.

All is well that ends well.
Vent over.

Time spent riding highly tuned 2 smokes helps develop fast reflexes with your clutch hand.Doesn't help when your chain jumps ship though.

This happened to my neighbour on his Gt250r aswell.
Lucky it happened about 50 metres from a gas station.
Not too supprised tho, as he has only had ONE service and changed the oil ONCE since new.
He's now at about 28000 odd Ks and still going...

Yep happened to me when I had my little zzr coming back over the Taka's! Had a trip to Napier with the boys and nearly back to Welly when 1/4 way up Featherston side chain came off. Lucky no damage so mate put it back on. 2 corners before top of hill she completly shit itself and nearly bounced up and hit mate following. Shitty way to finish a long weekend trip on back of truck but now make sure of chain maintenance!!!!

Damn it, the bike wont be fixed today.... the gearbox is seizing up. I was really looking forward to a ride on the weekend. :crybaby:
I guess its back to my other hobby - photography.

Also, the bike has been serviced as per manual and the chain had plenty of lube on it. I guess it might have been a little loose. I really need to learn how to adjust it myself instead of taking it to the shop every time.

Its a bit of a problem that I live in an apartment in the city and the bike is in a secure car park. I dont even own any tools. The bike shop is on the way to work. I was always less of a hassle to drop it off there and pick it up at the end of the day then getting the bike out of the car park, leaving it on the street outside my building, getting tools, fiddling with it, dropping the tools off and going to work covered in lube.
In conclusion, I am a city boy... :innocent:

Buy a bike with a driveshaft you will never have to worry again.:woohoo:

the gearbox is seizing up.It will have bent the shaft the chain drive cog is on, whatever thats called.

On one of our GT250Rs we found the clip missing off the chain link. How the hell it kept going beats me.

Yeah my bike shop gets a blank stare every time they ask me to drop my bike off there and leave it with them. But then I can't ride it, fool!

Anyways, good save mate.

I locked my rear wheel up on my Hyosung GT250R a while back. I was going 100km/h at night in the wet and the chain gaurd flicked off into the rear sprocket. There is a metal piece in those chain gaurds. I have actually read about this happening to someone else before!! I slid for a few seconds (a loooong fish tail) and then the gaurd shattered and I pulled over.

Nicely done man! Glad you didn't lock up your wheel at 100km/h (in traffic especially!!!)
