FOOD

Due to the numbers (there is another 20 bikers staying in the hotel) the hotel are putting on a smorgasboard, $20.00 per head. I have to let them know our final numbers for this on Thursday. Unless you tell me otherwise I have put all 16 (above) down for the meal.

I have a feeling that some of you may be staying in Mokau, can you let me know if you are, if you want to join in with the smorgasboard at the Awakino hotel PM me and I will add you to these numbers.

Saturday morning departure from hotel at 8.45am. Please be gassed up by that time (nearest petrol station is approx 3 kms north of the hotel). Suggest you fill up when you arrive on Friday.

There may be some riders coming for just the day etc from New Plymouth. If any of you are running late we will meet you at the SH3, Ahititi turn off at approx 9.05pm.

Ohura meeting between 10.00 and 10.30

This is a morning tea stop (yes if you listen carefully you can hear the banjos in the hills..). I understand that we will be meeting the following in Ohura (outside the dairy)

Motoxnut
Johannvr
Reofix
MM1
Aslan
Tony W
Marks
Triboy

We ride from there onto the Forgotten Highway and head South. So if any of you are late coming out of Whangamomona we may see you (but we will be turning West towards Mt Dampner before we get to Whanga).

Lunch and fuel stop will be Urenui. It is approx 200km of riding from Awakino to Urenui. As this is only a small petrol station, bottlenecks are likely to occur. Some of you may want to get gas on the way in, others just before we leave?

Lunch, there is a 4 square type dairy, fish and chip shop and a pub. We are not sure if there will be pub lunches available, we can find that out on the day.

(Crisis confirming you are heading back North on Saturday, this may be a good spot to leave from)

Then approx 65km to Te Wera.

We need to let the camp know final meal numbers on Wednesday if you want a meal and have not paid please get your money to me.

At Te Wera you will need sleeping bags. Accomodation cost is $25.00 per head CASH (no fancy Eftpos etc out there).

Sunday morning we need to clean the place up prior to leaving.

We plan to finish the ride on Sunday at the Whanga pub around lunchtime which will give anyone heading North East or North West a good way out.

We have arranged for petrol to be available at Whangamomona, this is being specially brought in, cost will be $3.00 per litre. Nearest gas to Whanga is Stratford, Awakino, Pio Pio, Taurmarunui etc

Next update will have more distances so you can plan your "fuel strategy" (now there is a big city term!!)

This post is work in progress and Phil and I will keep it updated during the week.

UPDATE

In no specific order

1) We are going to have a large number of bikes on the ride so please be careful!!!
2) Phil will lead the ride and I will be tail end Charlie up as far as the Urenui lunch stop. After Urenui Kelvin (2BISHES will do be the tail ender)
3) Why Urenui do I hear you ask. You may remember that this weekend was partly chosen so that it would not clash with Army Visitors day (my son went in the army just over 4 weeks ago). Unfortunately Visitors day last Sunday was postponed due to a gastro bug going around the Waiorou camp... Yep you guessed it visitors day is now this Sunday. So the plan is when we get to Urenui for lunch I will head back to New Plymouth, load my car up with the beers and will drive out to Te Wera. Later Saturday night I will head home so that I can leave early Sunday morning (I am picking up 2 of my sons friends - that is why I am not taking the KTM from Te Wera)
4) There may be a couple of tunnels where U turns will be needed to get back on the route.
5) I will be checking this site until approx 4.15pm on Friday, if your plans change please send me a PM.
6) Urenui Fish and Chip shop is open, as is the pub (but they won't be doing lunch). You can take fish and chips in there if you want

See you all Friday or Saturday!!
