View Full Version : To the biker doing a runner from the cops thru Wellsford this morning

I was one of the guys gearing up by the cafe next to the s/w 16 turn off.
You had 3 cops cars screaming up behind you (one close two about another 10 seconds behind).
Taking the time to wave to us was classic - you had us laughing like mad :lol::lol:
Hope you made it home in one piece and without a ticket.

Classic. Perhaps you could be witnesses if he tries the `suspect didn't know he was in a pursuit' tactic in court; he was only out on a pleasant Sunday ride, even took the time to wave to people on the side of the road...

I was riding on the Hauraki plains in a group and the red and blues went off.
One guy ran.
They caught him 15 minutes later.
He saved the rest of us a slap on the wrist - 20 over at best - and entered a world of sell-your-bike pain.
If I can give any of you noobs the learn: Pull over - smile nice - have the licence out - be respectful - and it's a whole lot better in the long run. You can only dodge so many bullets.

Well, it wasn't me - although I was wondering why there were so many cops on Albany hill at about 10am - coincidence?
On the note of Albany hill - thank you SO MUCH to the white wagon that flashed me before I crested - I would have been walking for 28 days if you hadn't done that - and only a biker would have done it, so big ups.

Whilst I did say that the wave etc was funny (and it was), I did think that the guy was a fool for running.
Im sure that there is a hell of a rush, and excitement - but at the end of the day its always a gamble - and its just not worth it.

Well in my limited experience with the Police they are begging me to do a runner...
Picture this...
Beautiful Sunday morning, dry roads. Helmet, gloves, leathers all donned!
Bike just been serviced, chain clean and lubed! Biker heaven pretty much!
Headin to Coro Loop for a bit of fun, jump on the Northwestern, purposely keeping 105 - 110 (until your outta town)
All the cars are moving outta your way, hit the Southern, slow down for the 80kmph part (what a joke that is!)
Headin along the motorway past Highbrook Drive, see the Police car with lights on and you are immediately behind a truck!
They dont have your licence plate, your on a thou and you have a choice - easy getta way or pull over!
Being a law abiding citizen - I pull over! 112kmph was what he had on radar.
I hand over the licence and do all the nicities - everything checks out I have the right licence, good tyres, WOF & REG!
He brings out the ticket book
ME: "Mate, I know you didnt have my licence plate. You know that if I had run I would have got away - how about a warning?"
PO: "Nah I ticket you guys every chance I get"
ME: " Ohhh well I no what I am doing next time then!"
PO: "Good luck, heres your ticket!"
ME: "Wanker!" Was more explict then that and I got a lecture and warning on that!
Tell me how that is incouraging me not to run?
If I was going 120kmph sure ticket my ass, 112kpmh I wasnt even outa first!

I know for an absolute FACT that there are quite a few HP as well as normal coppers who love the chase when someone runs. They wait for it, eagerly anticipate the thrill and, of course, latch on given the chance. Comments based on first hand conversations with the above.
My only complaint is, we provide them with thrills and amusements, and they still throw the book at you *IF* they catch you. I spoke to one cop who let a guy in an Evo off because he showed exemplory vehicle control during a chase.
As Boomer said, 1 tank is a lot of gas. Gotta learn to hide quick though or you are dead meat.

Spend some time listening to a police scanner[1]. The onus is on the police to abandon the chase if any single one of about a dozen conditions are fulfilled (eg presence of other traffic, erratic driving of pursuee etc). It's amazing they bother to give chase at all given the restrictions on them at present.
Mind you, I'm sure the hardened biker likes to keep thinking it was because he was such a L33T RIDZ0R that he evaded the cops, and not because of some mundane bureaucratic policy imposition....

BD is so right. My son is heading to court in the next couple of weeks on a driving related charge - if hes convicted he loses his right to get citizenship for another 3 years!!!
And that has absoultley fucked his plans!!!! If a friendly officer is happy to help with advise (off the record) about getting discharged without conviction (first time offender) please PM me (he dosnt mind the fine / ban) .

Hey T, this is to his favour. Plead that a conviction would cause undue punishment (I forget the technical term) because of his plans and he's likely to get off. I've seen dickheads cause multi car pileups and get off because it would bar them from getting into the Police in the past.

Yes radios are faster than bikes but a radio is only good if there is another car to respond otherwise you are home free. As for choppers well i think only auckland gets to have that.
After saying that i still dont suggest running, (as said most of us probably have at some stage) and with the fact they don't let you off for anything now days it does make it a better option even thou its a bad one.
Mind you when I had my 250 I had a cop stop me and said why didn't ya run (he had to wait a long time to do a U-turn, but i had pulled over when he was still waiting) Luckily he let me off with a warning, but how was my 250 gonna bet his holden?

This logic really annoys me. Isn't the effect of the punishment there for the very reason that you're suggesting he get off because of?
On possibly a different scale, murderers shouldn't be convicted because it might ruin their plans? Right..

Yep, annoys the shit out of me too. But thats life, and you look after your own.
When I was young and stupid the cops didn't prosecute, they rang your folks or worse they dropped you off at home and had a word. Because back then, they knew your folks stood a chance, and had a right to first dibs on you. If you kept fucking up then that was a different story.
