View Full Version : How much crap can you fit into one weekend?

Where do I start? At the beginning I surpose. I might add a few quips somewhere in here about GSVR cause I know he wont read anything this long....

It was arranged that Maha and Mom would be visiting the metropolis of Ashhurst friday night. Rain friday morning was very timely because it gave me the excuse to take the day off.
So I run round doing bits and pieces until we got the text from Maha at about 3pm that he was in Waioru. Those who wanted to be we informed and Meanie, monie, gsvr, blacksheep and I headed out to welcome maha and mom over vinegar hill. 2/3 the way across we run into them and just as we did Yod showed up. So it was a introductions on the side of the road and we headed off to Ashhurst. Had a mint run with blacksheep across vinegar hill. The performance green rim stripes certainly make the yamaha go good.

Had coffee and mucked around for a while before everyone started showing up at meanies for a HUGE feed and some drinks.
Horse showed up on the bike that makes a concours look small, which was fantastic. Had a bit of a sit and played round with the radio! Awesome. I certainly would never dream of owning a HD but somehow, it just fits horse - and did I mention its got a radio! (and its own ZIP code)

Maha and Mom fitted in just nicely and fell into their element when the talking crap started - obviously well practiced! By the end of the evening there were more people than bourbon left so we called it a night and headed home.

Sat morning was a little rough. Woke to the pleasent sound of an 8 yr old playing singstar. Not mint. Quick shower and a pinch to make sure I was still alive and made a plan to escort Maha and Mom to masterton.

We headed out at 1030, took in the saddle road and having already ridden 8km decided to stop for a smoke and take in the windmills. More crap talking and half an hour later we headed off for a pootle to finish the saddle, along through balance and some of the better backroads before Bonez, Horse and gsvr peeled off for home.

The rest of us headed out to Alfredton and took what is only to be known as back road bliss to masterton. I decided to hang around the back of the pack as I was not feeling exactly like a box of fluffies but my bike had different ideas and before long I put my head down and went in search for Yod. Yod was certainly at one with the bird as it took a little while to find him and had a great run through to the turnoff to Masterton while the Yamaha tamed the tiger in front of us (quite a way in front of us BTW).
Good thing for intersections as we came across Sarge and 86 waiting patiently for us.

We were just about to head off to Masterton and 86 had a weak moment and offered me the tiger for a play. Not wanting to offend him I took 0.0003 seconds to think about it and jumped on.
What a weapon in disguise! (actually not that good of a disguise really)
At first, the upright position of the tiger felt strange but at the same time, really really really comfortable. The power of the triple was fantastic and with the height the speed is very deceptive. The engine braking on the tiger is incredible with a shut of the throttle having more or less the same effect as jumping on the front brake of the 9. First corner came up and I pushed gently on the bar and the bike fell into the corner. Awesome stuff. Stopped at the Masterton mobil and gave the tiger back before I either broke it or hit him over the head and stole it.
Back on the 9 is like coming home. I really like my bike and as soon as we swapped bikes back we came across a roundabout. Had some trouble getting off the roundabout in Masterton (roundabouts are fun) and found a cafe for some much deserved coffee and pie.
Waved goodbye to Maha and Mom, it was fantastic meeting you guys and now you know where we live you are always welcome round here.
I was feeling alot jaded by now so decided to main highway it home. Sarge was not ready to call it a day and the rimatakas were calling so with a very very very very very small bend of Yod and 86s arms the 3 of them headed south and Meanie, monie and I headed up SH2 for home.
The ride home was nice, uneventful and just took in the sun which we havent seen for a really long time. It was nice to cruise up the highway in a small group and enjoy the scenery.
Hit mangamorie and decided I might to some practice with some entry speeds so headed off in front and had a blinder coming through to the track. The 9 feels fantastic right now and with the sun at my back all was good in the world of cowboyz.
Had a smoke at the track before heading home for a bit of a nana nap.
Back to the BBQ Sat night as Sarge called in on his way home from the Rimatakas and Mr and Mrs Yod called out so more crap talking and remembering I had to work Sun morning headed home realitivly early.
Very jaded today. Great weekend though. If the summer rides are going to be anything like this weekend then we are in for a treat.

Cheers

EMU

bloody mint ride, great weather, good group

got seriously zoned in on mangamaire and route 52, getting more and more connected to the big brutal honda, awesome power and exceedingly better on the road than the old RF (RIP), no doubt the purists will shudder but I'm quite liking the linked brakes, the whole package just gives me heaps more confidence at pace

takas, haywards and paekok were primo, as usual
traffic wasn't too bad for a change

the flouro green/yellow scooter was a highlight too  carve up those harleys brutha!

Bloody awesome week end, heaps of riding, eating, drinking and even some sunshine. Was great to meet Maha and Mom, hopefully shocked them into never coming back :lol:We have a bit of a reputation to keep
Young Black lamb had a smile from ear to ear when he was sitting on Monies ninja, fitted him like a glove too
Going to work for a rest tomorrow, i,m knackered
Thanks all for a most awesome week end

Pfft! I think the Tiger was in cruise mode just quietly.
Excellent write up. :niceone:

Sort of selectively read the whole thing this time. Thanks for the mention twice.

I dunno why 86 offered you a ride on his Tiger. I suppose its becuase you ride a big powerful beast of a bike and are EMU. Or maybe its becuase your so tall in stature and mana. He hasn't offered me a ride but I might just do a Bonez. Has anyone seen Bonez ride anything but a Honda?

Its been a good weekend of riding. Cheers for the report! I'd give you some Rep but apparently I've already done so recently.

I had the honour of taking a nice youngman (Smity-Jr) to his basic handling skills in Ashhurst-then off to Onroad for the scratchie test. He passed and his massive grin said it all.
I then chaperoned him on his first ride to Wanganui on Black Pearl (well he looked after me on my new bike....thanks Ryan :niceone:) and then I came home. My effort in ensuring the next generation of Manawatu bikers continue:rolleyes:
Sunday I went to Hastings for lunch...(observation....I can keep up now ) with two friends and came back the Weber way. Lots of twisties and a little scarey sometimes on the big Beastie but a hell of a way to get to know it. Very pleased but my speedo went wacko....120...110...0...60...0... all when I was doing about 120-130.
Needs its first service now so will get Welly MC to check it out.:Pokey:

I'd have to bail on this one sorry M. To be honest I'd be slower on the Tiger and the XB than on my SV. Its flattering that you think I could keep up with Al. Now put Cowboyz on Als Tiger and we might have a closer match.:devil2:

EMU

Well cowboyz I have to say that signing was a bit of a challenge for me too first thing in the morning, I woke to the feeling someone was watching me, when I opened my eyes sure enough there he stood waiting to turn the signstar on and get singing...LOL

As far a crap talking goes, I am sure I have no idea what you are talking about :innocent:

It was great to spend a bit of time in EMU county  best you all take a small sedate pootle up our way some time, we can be reasonable hosts or so I have been told.

Off to Tolaga Bay tomorrow, the weather is friggen mint, I even managed to find a couple of wineries to visit this afternoon :niceone: Of course having no idea what I like to drink I was forced to sample all on offer...LOL

Why do I feel worried now lol. Let's keep any bike swapping purely social. I'm flattered that you think I'd be faster Garry, I don't think of myself as fast, I just happen to enjoy trying to get quicker round twisties, purely a personal challenge thing.

Yeah I'm starting to worry about M I thought she loved her bike. Tell you what Al if you start putting 2 rs in my name I promise to spell Triumph correctly from now on.
