Some days just start well and get better. Saturday was just such a day. Big fat breakfast. Then swung on a chainsaw for four hours, felling tall pines (I just love sense of power as the tree hits the ground like a giant's last trip. Kinda like Frosty's littlest boy, Matty, knocking over Ruben Wiki).

A wickedly hot shower then off to the Frosty entourage...which was just an awesome experience. Back home later to watch the girls trash the Ozzies..the highlight being the super-sour look on Norma Plumber's face.

By ten the second bottle of wine was open...the first one went with the game and some venison.

What a day! End-to-end perfect. There won't be another like that for a while, I thought..Till today.

Woke at six feeling like a lion. Big breakie. Pack tools...in this case my .357 lever-action Rossi... into my back-pack. Secure back-pack to bike. Zoom North for a hunt.

Stopped in at the Kumeu Cafe to get lunchy stuff and while I was togging up to move on I listened to a bunch of guys all dressed in stretchy pants, rattling on about the great ride they were going to have.

A great ride!? On a peddle bike. Those guys need to get a life!

Anyway. Fab ride. Got to the farm up the top of the Kaipara, gave the horse a bit of a polish (great big, sure-footed, part Clydesdale) and set off.

Three hours later, returned with a fine, fat doe. Carved off half. Gave the other half to the farmer. Packed my meaty-bits into my back-pack, strapped it onto das hurricane-on-wheels and, as the sun gently turned day into dusk, I did a lovely, slow, every nerve in my body humming Mozart's Hallelujah, ride home.

That's two days of pure bliss in a row. Life doesn't get much better.
