July 2004 Japan's attitude towards women is under the spotlight following revelations that students at an elite university ran a 'rape club' dedicated to planning gang rapes.

Your rape fantasies obviously don't involve little yellow men, then.

Seriously, though. Is anyone surprised that the country which introduced the world to used panty dispensing machines and tentacle-monster-based hentai would have 'rape clubs'?

It's actually an informative doco article (Australian) looking at an issue which paints a bigger picture of gender inequality in Japan. What it describes not doubt goes on in many countries in various guises (basically premeditated pack rape of a singled-out victim). At the university in question, the programme also goes on to show that there is a student body dedicated to looking into gender issues and giving some hope that things may slowly change. With the propagation and proliferation of manga comics which glorify these things the change will not be swift or easy I don't think.
The woman lawyer shown, who represents many rape victims, says the law basically gives greater importance to the protection of personal property more than the sexual safety of women in Japan; no doubt there are some women in NZ even who wonder the same about our country????

Contrast this with a small pacific island nation where a percentage of the population see fit to murder their babies on a regular basis. So who's fucked up here?
Fact of the matter is a large proportion of human beings are despicable creatures, each in their own ways, you just don't always see it immediately. Technologies such as the net merely provide a means of disseminating such information faster and in greater volumes. The perversions have always been there in such individuals.
This is why I'm a cynic and a misanthropist. I have no faith in humanity. If I beleived in reincarnation I'd hope to come back as some thing else. Perhaps as a drop of water...

Now these are Just my observations of the human race.
We as the human race make our greatest technological advances when we are in a state of war.
We as the human race will think of new ways to hurt, maim, kill, our fellow Humans before we would out stretch a hand to offer the same our help.

I agree. Your hardly likely to report offenses if its going to ruin your life and probably not result in any real justice. Japan for a LONG time has had a horrendous history of treating the suspects better than the victims.
Heres some stereotyping for ya. The japanese are a cruel race. You just have to look at the level of attocities they commited on every bit of ground they occupied during the war, they tortured, enslaved, experimented on, raped, and massacred there way through asia and the pacific. Rape camps were set up for their soldiers and civilian workers. Very few japanese soldiers were every repremanded for crimes on occupied people. They had competitions on who could kill the most unarmed civilians in a day. Throw babies up in the air and catch them on bayonets? Yeah all good fun if your fight for the rising sun.
There history books read like disney tried to write it. They have taken little responsibilty for what they have done in the past, and continue to really piss of the koreans and chinese by choosing to ignore their part in the war crime commited against there people.
Look at what they did to our men, women and children when they captured them.

An omorashi service can involve either the client, the masseuse, or both, wetting themselves, with or without a diaper. This can sometimes involve a "teiku auto" (a wasei-eigo of the English phrase "take out") where you get to take home your masseuse's wet panties or diaper, or just their urine in a bottle.[4]
Soiled schoolgirl panties were at one time also available in Japan through vending machines.[5] However, in 2004, the Tokyo metropolitan government passed a bill to ban the sale of panties worn by underage girls.[6][7] Shortly after this law was passed, it was reported that some underage girls (called kagaseya or "sniffers") were instead allowing their clients to sniff their underwear from directly between their legs. Others chose to sell photos of themselves, throwing in the used panties for free.[8] These acts of pseudo-prostitution or "enjo kōsai" are one of the foundations of kogal culture in Japan.
Just incredible......

I had a couple of historys of world war 2 that had been translated from russian, one in the 50's that was quite over the top and one in the late 90's that was easier to read but still left out the warsaw uprising, was a little vague about its involvement in poland at the start and really didnt like taking about the finnish campaign.
Read quite a few german sided books, from galland, speer, rudel etc etc.
A finnish book on ww2- boy those guys could fight
Sato translated to me what his japanese school history books said. He even had his brother scan some he had in japan and email them. Apparently our pows died due to food shortages (no mention of death marches or beheadings, bayonetings or beating to death or being worked to death) and japan didnt invade china, they advanced after provocation due to some rail line being attacked (or something like that) There were some civilian deaths.
And the usual collection of brit, yank, french,oz,nz etc. I Quite like beevors work.

farrrrrking hell ... gotta love the wholesale slander of a country because of the actions of a few sick guys at a university ...
having actually spent time in Japan i cant say anything nicer about the modern Japan and the people living there. The food is second to none, the people are friendly and polite, for crying out loud i fell asleep in a train station one night and woke up without having anything taken from me ... try that in Auckland/Wellington/Christchurch ... and any country with bars setup specifically for getting a blowjob has gotta be good in my book ;)
as far as the history thing goes let it go already ... it happened ... build a bridge and get over it ... use slave labour if you have to!!! why stop at 63 years ago, why not go back to when the maori were cannibalising others in NZ, or the poisoning of aboriginal watering holes in australia, the slaughter of native americans during the colonisation of "The West", the destruction of the Incan and Mayan civilisations ... the list goes on and frikken on regarding atrocities around the world, and there arent many countries/races that can dodge that bullet even today.
As far as the 2 years in jail goes in Japan, well their prisons are no cakewalk like the ones here ... there is basically 2 years with absolute minimums needed to survive, no rec time, no rehab, and bugger all re-offending ... perhaps they learnt to develop their modern prisons with their shithouse practices in WW2 ...

Im not mad at the germans and they killed more members of my family than the japanese, because they have the stones to admit to their history, japan continues to insult its MILLIONS of victims by glossing over its past. Total BS. Those who dont learn from their history (or even acknoledge it) are doomed to repeat it.

A certain percentage of humanity is seriously fucked up.
A lot of the horror stories we hear from Japan are sensationalised trash media, where someone takes a single incident (eg:a used pantie vending machine in a red light district, more of a marketing gimmick than an actually useful dispenser), and makes it out to be part of the country's culture, to get more interest and therefore more sales.
