I have a screaming demon pipe on my Hyosung GT250 took the bike for a WOF and it failed said it was too loud!! So what I've done it make a bolt on Decibel reducer which slides into the muffler which got me though the WOF.
So has anyone else had a similar problem with aftermarket pipes and WOF's? If anyone wants a db reducer made up for the SD pipe just PM me.

Yep get your WOF early - you can go in up to 14 days before it is due and they date it to the original date.
It gives you a bit of lee-way in case you need to make 'modifications'
And yes there are some really loud bikes out there – but I bet they got their WOF’s over three months ago.
Basically the boy-racer noise laws apply to all.

I would like to see the actual Legislation on this if somebody would be kind enough to dig it up, have heard that there's something about 'motorcar's' being the word used which does not include motorcycle or something...
Although there still are Decibel limits...

There were decibel limits in the 1976 Traffic Regulations and an International and British standard to use to correctly test these to conform with international best practise.
The law makers in this country have knee jerked in response to the outcry abut boyracers and passed a very poorly thought out law.

FYI This was failed by the dealer not a testing station, The pipe was not purchased from the dealer so it was my fault for not checking prior to purchase it would meet current WOF noise levels.
You live and learn, thought the pipe wasn't that loud compared to some others I've heard.

The dealer wasn't being vindictive was he/she?
Is it worth getting the pipe independently tested for a dB reading? Or is that more trouble than it is worth?

Includes motorcycles.

Um, I haven't checked this out but I understood from our local VTNZ that if your vehicle is tested for a WOF and fails, then the current WOF becomes invalid even if there is still a week or two left before the current WOF expires. Is this not correct?
I appreciate that if you pay for a "vehicle inspection to WOF standard" that isn't entered into the system, that would be different.

Got mine not that long ago....SD pipe on GT250.
The dealer/workshop said that they hate the new rules.
Basically it's their discression if they think a bike needs noise level testing or not.... noise testing can only be done by officially trained people with offically sanctioned equipment.
It costs to much for them to get the equipment, so if they think it's too loud they'll fail you, and refer you to a noise testing station to get it officially checked out...if it passes that then you can come back and they'll approve the warrant (I think this might be at your expense)
None of this mattered though.
They liked the sound of the SD pipe on my bike....they agreed that it was loud, but not offensively so.
Pays to use a testing station that appeciates bikes.

I turned mine off and rolled down the slope to the testing station... made it through but dont expect to next time

A lot depends on the person giving the wof as to whether it will pass or not...
