Out of interest I took a look at this NSR250 when it was in Warkworth and it's been on trademe for a while now. It is with a new guy now who is selling it as he got it as part of a trade (nice guy) and I just wish to warn new buyers or the tempted who may not know much about the machine. There is a very good chance some you lot may be wondering about this machine as the price is tempting- and it is certainly not in the condition as described.

The original guy in Warkworth seemed like he just wanted the cash and to fuck you off, the oil that he had been running it with was shite out of the petrol station stuff, so the crank is possibly not in the best shape. tyres screwed.. mud in every possible crevice... caked over the entire radiator- probably overheated by the state of it. was not taken care of... however... the thing is... it is a very nice machine in terms of fairings/switches/plastics etc so it is tricky.

Upon first inspection the fairings were coming apart from the bottom and tyres were shot to hell.. this guy was misleading and plainly didn't take good care. However... much more alarming was the fact that there is a shot bearing in the engine somewhere... as there is a rattling that i know a 2moker should not have and it is likely the water pump bearing or gearbox.

Further- compression is shot on the bike... these bikes should start solidly and at the firm flick of the kick starter when in proper condition but this takes a GOOD number of kicks and even MORE when warm. What's more is that it is so bad i could put it into gear and then turn the engine over just by letting it roll gently/pushing it... I don't know how it's running. Barells must be worn to hell and they are like rocking horse shit to get hold of. Rings are about to blow too i guess. sounds noticeably weaker than others too.

It's a wicked looking bike and this mc18 looks very good when looking at the plastics etc... the easiest to derestrict and even as light as the TZR 3xv, definately one of the top all round out of all the 2 smokers...MC18 is simply 2 mins with a couple of wires and an instant 60hp- incredible with a 128kg weight but just watch out if you're buying your first bike.. this one is not all it may seem at first.

If you feel that strongly about it why don't you report it to Trademe?
The guy has openly said inspection is welcome, and when buying second hand vehicles, one should always beware.

Because the guy is a nice guy and he did do some things to it from the last guys time- but he himsefl didnt realise the shot bearing and it's just some people would never even notice. Just warning kb'ers incase some are looking... it's just the bike itself is misleading.

seems a bit rough man. By the looks of the photos its got a new set of tyres and looks tidy enough. its a good price considering whatsome of these go for as well.

but as people say all 20 odd year old bikes are 20 years old and there arent many, if any (haha) that havent been abused at some point. as you say looks can be deceiving. And as a vfr owner you should no better than most the neglect 20 year old bikes get.

either way inspect a bike before hand or suffer at your own perile really
