High Kms question

After reading the thread about the high kms hyabusa and everyone agreeing that with 1L+ bikes we good maintainence it will go forever. Does this apply to say 600cc? Would 40-50k km be just a run in for this or do they have a more limited life?

shrug my 600 is 50,000kms still good as gold.

Due to 600 being a bit more high revving than the bigger cc, people believe not last as long with rebuilds.

But like anything alot will come down how to its looked after, eg mine is serviced regularly(2 oil changes a year), with top quality oil (i have used the same type of oil in since 0kms)

The 750 has just clicked over 125,000km and still has lots a life in her (crosses fingers) :niceone:

The engine itself should be fine, given decent TLC and not too much abuse (watch for signs of raced-ness, etc).

The problem will be the consumable stuff: chain & sprox, fork seals & oil, brakes & lines, swingarm bearings, headraces, standard maintenance bits & bobs and the rear shock. If they're all shot and the bike feels really baggy, then it'll add up to lots of extra $$$$.

If the bike's had one owner from new, this is probably less of a problem than if there have been 10 owners, as the feller will have treated it like a keeper & followed the service manual. The back shock will still be stuffed though. The bikes are meant to be revved and ridden, so inside should be fine - it's the bits that cop the dirt on the outside that wear out faster in my experience.

I doubt many sprots bike riders need be overly concerned about the longevity of their engines.

Yeah I've just ticked over 125000 on my ZXR. No worries. Well almost, brake lines are getting spongey, fairings cracked in 103 places, suspension's a little bit soft. But engine still a minter, uses no oil, starts everytime. I did replace the cam chain at 103 though.

Mate 40,000 kms is okay, BUT its all down to servicing, regular oil changes and the neccesary adjustments being made at the right times? if you can be assured of this there is zero issues:niceone:

I'd add regular use to that mix too. Ridden every day I had a 550 that lasted around 160,000kms (GPz550) but it was ridden every day, and got oil and filter changes mostly on time.

Nope - still running ok, minor MVA, but I was a student at the time - it was a high mileage bike - legal but no insurance. I got 140,000kms out of a $4000 bike....

Do I detect a jab at them being fair weather riders? Or that they upgrade to the latest model before their current bike has been run in? Or that everything else on the bike will fall apart before the engine goes? Or have I been making the jabs by suggesting all those options?

not even run in yet... its probably just starting to loosing up and come in to its own...

tell me cars are happy to 200,000 (if not more) if looked after... I sold my XJ with 130,000 and still going strong... I know guys on various bikes that have 200,000ks clocked and they say they would be happy to take it on another tour around the country...

If you can't get at least 100g out of a bike motor there is something wrong... the main thing is maintenance and servicing etc
