Hi all,

Just wanted to know if anyone in Christchurch could recommend a few quiet, nice unknown places to go for a ride, not a lot of traffic if possible with somewhere interesting at the end. I am still learning and am sick of cars and trucks.

Thanks :niceone:

I spent many many hours riding the summit road - learned most of my skills there.....including how to stop in pitch blackness without going over the edge when the headlight blew out in the middle of the night up there once.....

"how to stop in pitch blackness without going over the edge". not quite what I had in mind :) but thanks for all your thoughts,

I guess some of the fun is exploring and not having to go somewhere in particular. Freedom and all that.

What is it like for a beginner doing the Akaroa trip do you think?

Thanks again

Some nice quiet rides????

Ok.. those above have a point. Maybe not the port hills but over to Lyttleton then head round the bay turn off at Wheat Cheif pub and pop over gebbies and back through halswell. If you have plenty of time then go round to Diamond harbour and back, through Gebbies or direct to Lyttleton.

Feeling like riding some faster corners? Go through Halswell to Little river. Not enough and feeling better then pop over to Akaroa.

Not much time? through Lyttleton and over the hill to Sumner.

Got more time? Try a run to methven? down to Geraldine and back up SH72.

Not a lot of time? take a run through Lincoln, springston out to Rolleston etc.

Feeling better do the porthills run (take a left at the top of Gebbies). Go over the port hills? Cruise around the bottom of the port hills to sumner from Kennedy's bush. Take a trip to Cheviot (nice coffee).

Loop sumner, round by QE2 and off to Avonhead.

Try the roundabout at the bottom of Dyers Pass. Ride Dyers Pass.

Do the loop out Mcleans island?

Go explore....

Thanks for that Chubby! A few places there that look like just what I am after and I would not have thought of. :)

Thanks for the input

For a quick ride there's Old Tai Tapu Rd pass Halswell, easy corners on flat road, quiet. Nothing interesting at the end.
