You'll be able to put the 5 hundie in the top box and still have room for 2 more.

cheers guy's.
my old 5 hundie looks like a rag doll next to it, now the misses wants me to sell the 500 to get the loan down a bit quicker .
i didn't get the panniers and top box with it, the owner wanted another 800 for those as they are brand newish, couldn't fit that into the budget.
will see what i get for the 500 if i get enough i'll go back to him and buy the luggage.
Here's what she looks like now.

Hi Ian good to see you out in there in "web land". The TTTTT was a great ride (even if I do say so myself) with lots of riders, I think your sister "ship" was there - Bass has a DR650 with a 35 litre tank!

Very similar, I've found, comes out via that round black rubbery thing at the back of the bike......

i'm finding it very similar to my old 650 which had higher gearing than standard, this one geared down one on the front to bring the revs up
around town, i'm finding it very smooth with lots of pull through the rev range.

what tyres do ya reckon i should put on her, she's a bit heavier than the 650.
i was thinking E-09's?
shes currently got trail wings on her at the mo, there doing great on the tar but i dont think the rear will hold up in the gravel/dirt.

What size does the rear run - just had a look 130/80 17. Heaps of options but the E09 seems to be popular for mixed use - good kms with reasonable dirt traction. D606 or MT21 better off road but not as high KM life. Other thing with the E09 is it comes in a 140/30 17 which may or may not be a good thing. Another option is the E07 which has very good life, reasonable gravel/dirt traction and good on road manners (so I've been told).

I've got a set of E-08's on at the moment and flick an MT21 on the front and a Kenda trackmaster on the rear when I think I'll need a bit more traction.
Trackmaster gave me a few moments for the first couple of hundred K's and seems to be wearing quite quickly

Congratulations on your purchase :Punk:I did see you bike up for sale Looks like a minter It would be interesting to compare notes, Ive not ridden the 750 but I know there a bit lighter than My 800 and should go similialy well, and mine hauls the mail up to about 140kph and top out at just over 170kph plenty fast in the real world and I think some sports bikes would get a bit off a shock in the twisties, more than a bit actually:shifty:

for a big bike they dont feel big when riding, they feel quite nible and easy to throw around on the tar, will be interesting to see how she goes on the metal.
i havent tested the very top of the range, dont plan to. i'll take her out to 120-140 to pass if i have to but thats it, even though theres still power and revs to go i wont temp fate or the man with the radar.

Umm - make yourself one? Must do the same for the XTZ, got a stone in there last weekend that had ago at the plastic surround. Doubt you'll find an after market one, don't think there is an after market one for the dr650.

bloody hard finding those little parts, at least it would be an easy part to make, would try to make it stronger than the original as i dont think the caseing would take to many hits like that.

Yip, I'd try making one. If you could find one by the time youd paid freight and the exchange rate it would be uneconomic + it would probly be in Kamchatka and be freighted on an arthritic yak or something equally as slow.

I'd recomend an MT21, least thats wot I got, seems pretty good and lasting well. It's going to outlast the trackmaster (2700 k's, but it's still well warantable)and the MT21 rear (about half worn and I only did the DB on it)(and it wasn't on the ground the whole time:whistle::shutup:)

I like those drbigs. Lookin at pics and checking out jatz's one they must have been way ahead of their time when they came out. BMW copied the front guard I reckon. I don't ever think I had seen one prior to last year.
Are they easy to get bits for etc?? How many ponies?

aparently only about 52ponys in 88 but with shit loads of torque, have heard you can mod(there are lots you can do) it out to 90 horse but you dont need it with the amount of torque it puts out. awesome machine just a little bit top heavy when you get into some tight technical stuff.
all DR's are ahead of there time:2thumbsup the 650 was so far ahead they still havent found a need to change anything on it.
you can still get parts from suzuki which can be pricey, the other alternative is europe, theres a big following over there, you can buy almost everything for the DR on the net (providing the euro's down).ADVrider has got a thread on the DRBIG's theres bucket loads of info and technical stuff on there as well as some primo photos.
If you can find one in good nick grab it if you dont like it sell it on of she's in good nick you should get your $$$ back. but i doubt you'll part with it once you feel all that torque.

Yip.... Not to much of a problem getting parts, mind you I havn't tried getting bottom end bearings yet, they share a few parts with the 650 and the starters of an LS650, carbs are both mikunis
I like the fact theyre so forgiving, just use 2nd gear for going anywhere, good for dead slow up to about 50-60 k's without wrecking it, even copes with hill starts in 2nd

Torque is good, very very good. The low rev response of the XTZ is awesome. No more flame outs or "too lower first gear" issues. Even though the XTZ is heavy (about 70kgs heavier) but I'd much rather ride it up steep hills etc than the DR650.

No ,I plan to keep the klr for a few years, but I really like how you guys say the Doctor Big ONLY has 52 hp. Luxury lad. Mind you with my measly 35ish hp I have managed to fall off 3 out of 4 rides.
Still like them though and one of the best sounding bikes around.

yep ONLY 52hp, it feels like more when your powering around cars, harleys etc
its the torque on these that blows me away.
and the way the standard carbs are makes the curve smooth and easy to control,i couldn't imagine how the worked beasts handle ,i'm still trying to tame the standard one i'm riding.
would love to get a hold of another one and work it to 80-90hp and use it for beach raceing and stuff(flat side or pumper carb you'l be dropping wheel stands in 3rd and 4rth) yeeeee haaaa

Dont forget the 88 DR BIG's are 179kg dry so your looking at around 210-220kg with the fuel and oil so you need that big donkey to get up and boggie
shes a big bike and when loaded up with gear and pillion 52hp aint a lot, but it is more that ample.

Your not helping. Thats only 3kg heavier than the klr. I bet the 90 hp engines would have most of the power at the top end and would not be much use off a roadrace circuit, still be cool though.

Apparently so according to the internet. Add 22 litres of fuel and oil and she tops at about 200 kg, and considering I weigh 110kgs naked:weep: you can understand why 52 hp seems like heaven to me. MMM DRBIG engine transplant maybe. Btw I promise not to mention me being naked again.
