Hard though this may be to believe, for those inured to the vagaries of the caged species, there have been occasions, when pootling upon the motorised velocipede, to call into service the warning device......
(= sometimes you have to parp the horn....).
So far this has resulted in a sound reminiscent of a newly castrated, motherless lamb in a South Canterbury blizzard on a moonless night.....sort of...."bleeeeeeeeeeaattttttt!" Fer gudzake, who is gonna take any notice of that?? IF they even hear the damn thing.......:Oi:
What I want to know is, has anyone found a decent aftermarket horn that would graft onto an SV? - something that sounds more like a truckload of wild pigs locking up the brakes at 160km/hr, followed by a detonating atomic bomb......ie an audible horn - with a bit of grunt to it....?:ar15:
'cause I would love to swap what's in there now......

I've got the standard horn on the VFR, boosted by dual Fiamm AM90 Super horns I bought from Repco for not very much.
Previous bikes had all sorts of odd horns that were also loud. The trick is to have more'n one, and have them powered via a relay connected to the battery with fattish wire. Oh - and make sure the standard horn's adjuster screw is tweaked for optimum loudness too.

I've been told that those little blue pills with a 'V' on them give you a strong horn :tugger:

You'll never manage to keep the front wheel down if you do that.

It got me out of a few interesting spots on the NW motorway a few times - truck and trailer unit wanted to come and meet me - I hit the horn and the driver heard me - I was 1/3 of the way up the trailer (from the rear).
Impressed was I!
Spank has a post about them on an SV (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=27761&highlight=stebel)... but I'll only change if I find something better - I'll be bloody surprised if that's any time soon

The previous owner of my SV stuck an air horn on it. Friggen awesome.
I would highly recomend going down that path.
Compressor under the pillion seat, airhorn behind the fairings.

Talk to Maha. Before he turned gay and got a Honda he had a horn on the Trumpy that made little old ladies jump.

Not sure in NZ - but I can bring one back from the US of A next time I'm up that way (in the next three months for sure)... available off eBay or - just rummage around the web.
I think I got mine from http://www.starcycle.com/ and brought it back with me when I went up that way

I bought a mini beast horn from ebay for the Harley.....128db...thats a good loud horn. Now when the bike goes for a warrant, if the inspector asks about the pipes..I tell him "They aren't even as loud as the horn..listen"..always good for a laugh.
Have used the horn in anger once..damn near sent the cage driver through their windscreen in fright.
Get a loud horn........they work
