View Full Version : Blenheim & Nelson, cheap accommodation and things to do?

In the second week of November, Mrs Oakie and I will be wheeling our Hondas out of the garage and heading off to the top of the South Island for 4 or 5 days. Can anyone suggest cheapish places to stay up there as we trip around? Sort of thinking along the lines of comfy camping ground cabins or bed and breakfast type outfits at about $45 to $65 a night. A country pub is a another option.

We're planning on staying in Blenheim for couple of nights and doing a wine trail from there but are there any other recommended activities or trips?. (Before anyone suggests it ... Mapua is now only 'clothing optional' from February to March. Yes I checked)

Plan is to go up SH1 on the way there and back home down the middle of the island.

Queen Charlotte drive as a ride, but you knew that one, Brayshaw park as a heritage museum (http://www.brayshawpark.org.nz/home.html) is well worth a visit, plenty of wineries there, Prenzels is worth a visit but yo ucan buy all their product here, last time we stayed up that way we were in Waikawa motor camp but that's a bit out of the way.

Not much help with Nelson, but Pelorus Bridge is worth a stop for a while just to soak up the views.

Have fun.

obviously you are wheeling them because they are hondas. Might be more fun to ride them though
