Ok guys , as i have already hinted is im heading down south on my Max , going across on the ferry stopping in blenheim then down SH1 then the inland Kaikoura road . I would like to take the scenic route and by pass and miss CHCH but i want to head into the Britten Muesum then through to Ash-vegas . From there off to geraldine , then get back on to SH1 to Balclutha with stops on the way . Now as i am going to tha Catlins (4x4) the bike will stay there . then on return head through to Alex - Wanaka - Haast to Fox or Franz joseph then up through the Nelson lakes and back to Blenheim .
I am wanting to know what i should take and any points of interest along the way also any accomdation as will have no room for the tent .
I am looking to do this 1 week before labour weekend to 1 week after (but will be in Catlins close to a week) so really only looking at 3 nights accom etc .
I point to remember i only have a 15 L tank so range is gonna only be 200kms.
I also will have no rader detector on board so if you see me on the road wave and if you see me at a garage tell me to keep the speed down ( there should be many laden down Vmaxs on the road .

Awesome. We did Akl~Wanaka~Akl in 3 weeks at Easter. 2 bikes, 2 kids, 1 wife, no tent.
We had no problems finding backpacker lodges or motorcamp cabins and most have coin-op laundries so we only carried what we might wear in 3 days.
We planned to ride no more than 6 hours a day and allowed 1 day in 4 for bad weather. The weather was all good, but we were glad for the extra days for time to do other stuff.
Hope you have a great time & don't be in a hurry... there's too much to see along the way.
Ian.

Hi
Have a great trip.
Bed here for you if it fits in with your plans (Moeraki 40km south of Oamaru) we're 5k off SH1 but there is 3k of gravel, you may even be able to twist my arm to join you for some of your ride

lets us know when you pass through Dunedin... may be able to met depending on day and time etc etc (work gets in the road of all the fun things and days)
as for fuel rang you should be ok... the VTR only has a ranage of 250ks and my old XJ special only a range of 150ks...
If you top up at one end of the catlins you will have enough to go through... but since you are going to be tiki touring in the catlins....There is a couple of fuel spots (probably is a little more expensive though) but you do have to watch the time as a couple are at the stores and when the store closes the pump closes.... other than that there are heaps of fuel stops...
