One piece wet suits

Hi Guys

Having ridden on the Coast before in heavy rain and with a trip down Haast in the next fortnight I have decided to invest in a one piece wet weather suit. I tried a Spool suit on yesterday but found it almost impossible to do the zip up without it jamming with the fabric locking up underneath the zipper. I tried to do the zip up as carefully as I could but it is very prone to locking which would rule the suit out trying to undo with frozen hands. There is a Dryrider suit but my guess is I would have the same issues with these suits.
Anyone have either suit and do find the zip is prone to locking as per the suit I tried?. Do you recommend them.

I've got a Spool one piece which I don't have problems with in this respect but my use is in a work commute situation.

In the past I have had numerous pairs of overtrousers and other wet weather gear for mountaineering use and the weak point is invariably the zips. The preferred option in those circumstances was for the heavy duty nylon type zips as they were less prone to jamming, especially when the zip was literally frozen. Also the large zips are less prone to failure due to abrasion or general wear and tear.

The other option was for velcro/dome closures but the disadvantage was in the extra bulk and reduced water fastness.

Best advice is to treat zips with care :calm: and give them a regular spray with Selleys Ezi Glide silicon dry lube.

The very best thing for a zip, is parrafin wax.
Get a candle and rub it along the zip, then work the slider a few times.

I've got a Dryrider 'Hurricane' one piece. Best thing I ever got. Rolls up small enought to fit into a medium size bum bag (never tried to see if it would fit under the seat). Never had any issues with the zip. I've been in some crap weather with it on and come off totally dry.

Over all worth its weight in gold. I team it up with Rain-off? overgloves and stay warm and dry in any conditons.

I have the Dryrider one piece as well, got the same problems and I feel like the Michelin man when on. But it works well and yes I've got the Rainoffs to. They would be great for the Westcoast Corky:Punk:

I have a Dryrider one piece. over leather etc. is okay to get in, even better after loosing a few extra kegs.
I got soaked going home from a cold kiwi in it, less than an hours riding and it was done!
if you wanna wear leather, a one piece is probably the way to go.
or get some of the new fancy non leather gear that is water proof, etc etc
