Fark, I have no idea where to start! I have attended just about every VMCC round for the last 3-4 years helping out with marshalling, picking up bikes of the track and general pit bitching. Having never given it a go myself, this time I thought I would enter.
Anyone that know's me, knows that I have had some extremely bad luck over the last 6 months and I was very lucky to have had the support of my man Malcolm (koba on KB) who has spent the last month working tirelessly rebuilding my roasted RG after I blew it on the Taka's.
The last time I raced on a track was in June when I raced my bucket at Ruapuna and crashed which caused me to break a few bones in my foot and crack a rib so I was really nervous about getting out on the track again. SO I decided to set myself some personal goals for my first ever "proper" bike race.
Goal 1: QUALIFY!!!
Goal 2: Finish EVERYTIME I go out ie, no crashing and no seizures or blow-ups!
Goal 3: Try and beat my time from the first day to the second.
Here is my race report:
Practice/ Qualifying:
I was extremely nervous about qualifying leading up to the event. VMCC usually run the 125's and street stock together. There were over 50 SS's and 125's registered and with only 35 being allowed on the track I was worried! However VMCC ran the 125's with the motards which I hear was slightly controversial but it worked for me!
I was sooo nervous before I went out that I had to wee one miiilllllion times and smoked a packet of ciggies. ONce I got out there it was a different story. I felt comfortable and smooth. I took the first two laps slowish as the bike had only done 2 k's since its rebuild. Once those laps were over I twisted the throttle a bit more and had my first couple of little battles.
I qualified 25th with a very slow pace of 1.45 mins but I was quite stoked with finishing! :D
Sat, Race 1
After watching a shocking start to Superbikes I got a bit edgy and thought about calling it a day but I took a bit of time out to think, grew a pair and the HTFU. I got a very average start and fucked up the first corner. ONce I got my groove on I started opening the throttle. All I remembered from my 1st race was that I overtook a couple of people, diced with another and learnt alot about my riding.
I was braking too early and in way to higher gear coming out of the corners so I made a mental note to work on that on Sun.
Sun, Race 1
Got a great start, tryed nailing it into the first corner. I got a great line and was i the right gear but by the time I got to splash I felt crowded in and slowed right down to let everyone past, doh!
Once everyone buggered of I was in the front of the end group and I had a blast. I was braking later into corners and started getting my gearing sorted. I actually started sacring myself a little and the adrenaline was pumping. After about 7 laps (7th being my fastest) I was stuffed and we were only half way. The people I was trailling and trying to past faded away into the distance and I got lapped, only once this time so not too bad.
I came in absolutely pumping to find out that I had chopped 4 seconds of my time for the day before and got a 1.41, woot! Naturally I had to tell everyone I knew, lol!
Sun, Race 2
This was a 6 lapper and was my best feeling race of the weekend. I managed to get my gearing right and started braking later and later into corners. I was buzzing and had a couple of little battles of which I was victorius!
This is the best fun you can have with ya pant's on, eh Deano?! ;)
I have to thank Malcolm, my loving amazing man who I would not have been able to race without his help! Everyone that was in our pit, Deano, Luke, Gaz, Vicki and all the crew. Thanks also to Weaver. You rock buddy, thanks for all your help! :niceone:
Thanks for reading this report guy's. I know its long!!
