Tomtom GPS query

On behalf of a friend, (I don't know anything about gps units)

Specifically for a tomtom: Can I buy a tomtom with NZ and Australian maps (or buy the maps later) and switch between them at will?

I see there is a very expensive model that has NZ, Aust, USA and Europe maps preloaded. Can I do the same thing with just Aust and NZ on a cheaper unit?

Like they said, the Tom Tom comes with local maps (for whatever country you bought in in), but you can install the other maps as required.

When I went to Europe, it was cheaper to buy a new TomTom then buy the upgrade maps.
