Thought you guys might like to read this - two people I know wanted to do something special to raise money for a scanner appeal... so they rode 1,000 miles in 24 hours!
Think it sounds easy? Well read on and see what it was really like (http://www.bobpickett.co.uk/bkit/1000in24.htm)
Fantastic effort, well done guys.

Nice write up, I've done a 1000 mile /24 hour run twice and a lot of people on here have also, I found it more mentally challenging than physical

And I reinforce exactly what Kickaha says about the mental challenge aspect. Although one's arse always knows that one has been on a very long ride.

After reading about the NZ Grand Challenge event, some friends of mine in the UK tried to organise a similar one and had to cancel it because of low interest, despite wide publicity. What's happened to British backbone?

100-200 years ago everyone in the UK with any 'get up and go' got up and left. Hence the greater spirit in countries like NZ, Aus, US, etc.

Why organise one, when one already exists?

The National Rally has been going for over 100 years, although it was cancelled a couple of years back.

Hmmm.............24 hours to do 1,000 miles??? Was it supposed to be an economy run?
Even Banditrider doesn't ride that slow!

Not only does it recovers... it grows.
I have completed five Chatto Creek 1000 miler's. Noon saturday, to noon sunday. Untill you have done one, its hard to get your head round the distance involved.

Surely a thousand miles on a motorcycle can't be as difficult as a hundred miles on a pushbike.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to test that theory this year at the Rusty Nuts GC, given the inconvenient timing of this 'licence suspension' business.

The central otago rail trail (150 km's) has been done in less than eight hours. (No speed limits on the rail trail)

Hey jafar.......how about a Rusty Nuts GC on your scoot? Little bit of luggage, a screen if ya soft...wouldn't even need a sheepskin on that seat!
