....Bruce Anstey today. He's had a wee meeting with the big bloke in the swivelly chair and now we're all having a chat.

For those that don't know, there's a salesman I work with, with a bigger ego than my own. (Sad but true, must be something about salesmen)

Anyway, said salesman's saying "Well, if we don't see ya before Manfeild, we'll catch ya there."

"Just count yourself lucky I don't break the leathers out, come and teach ya how to ride that thing."

Me and Bruce are just staring at each other for about 5 seconds before we all pissed ourselves laughing.

Maybe ya had to be there, I don't know.

No, I don't think we had to be there.
After watching Bruce in action at the Wanganui street races, I can imagine...

By the way, is it really possible that there's someone with a bigger ego than yours? :Pokey:

'Tis true! I swear it!

Ask Deano or Jimbo or Fizzerman.

I will give the ego this, however, he has beaten Mr Anstey on more than one occassion on various machinary.

A typical racing conversation normally starts with "Did I tell ya about me NZ TT medal mate?"

Just so happens, if you go back through the archives, you'll see my workmates name above Bruces in the '90 or '91 250 proddy New Zealand TT.

You aint seen nuthin' yet.

Whenever Aaron Slight's in NZ, he brings his Fatboy in for a service or a battery.

1997 FLSTF travelled only 5000km since new. Don't see 'em like that often.

Wouldn't say I feel famous, more like extremely gratefull to know people with that talent.

If I was giving him a hiding at a track day or some shit, THEN I'd feel famous!

Oh can I name drop too? I was talking to Bruce and his girlfriend at my bro-in-laws birthday BBQ late last month. Bruce gave him a signed poster of the TT600 Triumph. WT may well know B-I-L, he bought a SV1000 recently (last name Millar, from Upper Hutt). Small worlds, three degree of seperation, etc.

It sure is a small world. What cracks me up, is Aaron or Bruce, two of NZs best roadracers, can walk into a busy bike shop in downtown Wellington, and no one even recognises them.

Aaron would get swamped by teenage Japanese girls (in Japan) and Bruce would be signing autographs all day in the UK.

I think it was 96 or sometime around then.

Aaron Slight and one of his mates come into Wellington Motorcycles for a bit of a wander one lunch time. Being the helpfull pricks we are, one of the then salesmen approaches the two blokes.

"You guys need any help?"

"No, no, Just having a quick look thanks" sez Aaron

"No worries," says Daryll, "what sort of bike do you ride?"

"Honda RC45."

"Funny sounding bike, never heard of one of those before." says Darryl "what's it look like?"

At which point Aarons mate almost fainted from laughing so hard.

And that's probably about the only payment Pete's got out of Antstey & he's doin well. :killingme Ahh racers, got to love them.

Funny Slighty story Trashy, bet the salesman felt 2 inches tall.

Funnily enough, he aint a salesman any more. Not that he was bad at it or anything, just road bikes weren't his passion.

You know I feel like that in my own house sometimes. You're right though. I remember seeing Aaron after a book signing, and the person I was with at the time asked me who me who the little guy was.

What the hell do all those letters mean when you're talking about Harleys? I've never been able to work it out. Thanks.

Slight's small, eh? Or should I say short, since I can't comment on anything else.

"FL" refers to 16inch front end.
"ST" means SofTail
"F" Fatboy

FXDWG

"FX" 19 or 21 inch front wheel
"D" Dyna
"WG" Wide Glide.

The "Dyna" family have rubber mounted engines while the "Softails" are solid mounted. The "Twin cam" 1450cc Softails are counter balanced to minimise vibration.

I'd like to make a really smart comment about those designations, but I just can't be @#$!ed. Do love 'Fatboy'. Has that Nissan 'Bongo' ring about it.

Ahhhhh. Just as I suspected. No one gives a shit unless they're into Harleys. :sly:
