Do you know when you take something off your bike that is really important & put it somewhere really safe then can't find it no matter how hard you look? Well then you'll know how I feel at the mo.

Whilst painting my Gb400TT I took the little chrome cam fasteners off the side covers so they wouldn't get paint on them. Now they've run off to bare botty land & I have to think of a cheap way to refasten them. My idea may be to tack a nut to the frame & get a black bolt to fit.

The bike is coming up for sale as soon as its sunny enough to take photos of it shining in the sun so I don't really want to spend any money on it.

Any other ideas?

Thanks

Dzus fasteners (http://www.cardwells.co.nz/Our_Brands/Sub_Brands/Milspec_Dzus_Fasteners/MenuId/89.aspx) look good. Heaps of variations so you might find some to fit the existing holes. Perhaps try an aircraft wrecker to avoid the cost of new?

A jar in a draw or a small parts box on the shelf
Or tucked just inside the corner of a small tools box or draw. the draw you keep your allan key wrenches, under 10mm spanners and jewelers screwdriver in.
Hanging on a nail on the wall in a small plastic bag.
In the bikes tool box.

Idea's:shit:

Can you post photos of what you want to attach to what so I can have some idea? I'm usually fairly ingenious when it comes to making things fit.

That would be helpful and go against the KB "asking for help" creed of providing minimal information and then abusing people who try to help.

Just so you know.

I think you are looking for acorn nuts...... Get them at mitre 10. They are the chrome nuts with the dome end.....

Ask the kids...they pick up shiny things...I was overhauling the brakes on a car one day and my 8 year old son picked up the springs from the brake shoes and took them out in the garden while I was having lunch!!!!

I'm sorry to have to say that this follow's Rupert's law of lost tools. Basically, the law of lost tools states that only when you replace it will you find it. It really is quite true. So, replace the part, even if it costs $100 for an original from Honda. Then, it magically will just turn up. Well, it works for me. I suppose you could keep the receipt ...

Mental Image I have is chrome zeus bolts with a big pan head on em.
So why not just use a couple of M5 bolts with ZP washers ?
