Q1. Does this apply to other social group forums as well?
Q2.So why not close it after the upgrade and move the threads or is that not the logical approach?
Q3.Are there any more intelligent people out there?

I have a question, did I just read that our little social group entities will be able to be thread based regardless of number when you guys upgrade?
Will we have quote functions etc as well?

so this means these threads end up in some other format I assume? (judging by the sounds of "threaded Social Groups")

Might as well hang out here as long as we can and then move back down the street.

Highly likely, as well as other functionality.

We'll have to wait and see if it's possible to transfer the threads across. Won't know until the upgrade.

It is not so much because of the behaviour (however it is deemed) but that there is the upgrade which doesn't have them.

Quoted By Mental in the Pants to me:
"Sorry but your opinion is irrelevant unless you can convince Spank to reenable the Social Group Forums mod.
With a group that has caused such a big problem Spank has said fuck em and turned off the mod. His call. I was going to be a little less harse and just subject everyone in the group to the Pink Hell.
Btw, I don't have to try hard to be an arsehole, it comes naturally lol
If you're lecturing me about respect you REALLY haven't been around long at all."

Sometimes topical things need to be discussed. Honest reasons should be given for actions taken. Hopefully the good that has come out of the forum will be recognised. It's definately been a plus for Manawatu Riders.

Let me just say this clearly, and for the record:
For Fuck's Sake!
The owners of the site, are of course free to do whatever the hell they want. That includes standing by people playing out petty vendettas in their roles as mods[1]. From my 19 years of participating in various online communities on the Internet, one thing I know that is 99% of people are simple-minded sheep who really don't give a flying wotsit and will just go with the flow no matter how much you screw them around, so I don't anticipate any great revolution of the people. But this is completely fucking amateur hour.
[1] I'm saying this in direct response to "With a group that has caused such a big problem Spank has said fuck em and turned off the mod." That's BS and many people know it.

Amazing really. People have no idea of the repercussions of their actions. Give them a little freedom to move and they prove it was a bad idea. Then wonder why the whole thing gets canned. So it's back to the status quo and having the rule book waved around.
We trusted a group of people to act like they're grown ups but that didn't happen. So the entire thing is being canned even though the mess is cleaned up and sorted out. Unfortunately it's too late, the damage was done. That sort of trust and respect will no longer be given to any group in that manner again. Ruined it for the lot.

The rules were relaxed a bit for the Social Group Forums. The mods let a hell of a lot slide but that just led to an avalanche.
The immediate problem was sorted, but the problem for the people who run this place is that we trusted people to behave with the relaxed rules but things went too far. Betrayal of trust isn't cured in 5 minutes. The repercussions spread wide and go deep.

Think that was the problem meanie !
There was some hell bitch fights going on in here, it's not like it's a private forum man ! I was actually embarassed (wrong choice of words perhaps, i don't blush often) that there was such power play going on !
Your right in one aspect that kb in my mind is the best thing since sliced bread (far too much time on my hands) and though as yod has pointed out half the threads on kb deserve to be binned, it is a policy however that nothing is deleted so everything is archived !
The forum is great in whatever form, to talk bikes, riding, crap and meeting new ppl I personally have learnt a fair amount in the short time i've been here, met some cool ppl, been on a couple of good fun rides !
The deleting of the manawatu forum is not going to change any of that for anyone !
I think someone has just made it known who owns what !

What a bunch of crap. Sorry if I'm not buying it. As I said, it's Spank's site, he gets to make the rules and do what he wants, but if you're going to come up with some retroactive justification to make everyone involved feel like they're being Calm and Reasonable, get back to me when it's something at least vaguely plausible.

I do need to just clarify something here. The Social Group Forums were being removed anyway. Once we knew that threaded Social Groups were being implemented that was the end for the Social Group Forums because they're buggy, they're incredibly resource heavy, they were never fully implemented. They're a beta really, but now the authors have found that they're not quite what they expected (as have we) so they're going with threaded Social Groups instead.
This forum isn't being shut down because it's a failed experiment. That failure only has bearing on when it's shutdown. Not if.

To put it another way: you said "The repercussions spread wide and go deep" - I'm simply not seeing that, but if you feel like providing some supporting commentary I'm all ears.
All I see is (1) some people that realised "omg the mods aren't looking" and got a little carried away, and posted some pointless shit. OMG It's the End of the WORLD.... oh wait, you can just delete the shit, get a senior mod to lay out a bit of smackdown (you could call it "doing poo-poos in your own playpen" or something like that) and things might just settle down.... (why does that sound familiar?)
and (2) 1 or 2 mods taking things said on the internet personally (which in my opinion and yes, 19 years of experience doing things on the Internet, pretty much rules them out of being a mod) and getting a little carried away.
As I said, if there's more, I'm all ears.

ok . before this gets binned lets clear up a few things.
1. MRF was created.
2. Ultimate crap threads created. this was made in the MRF to continue what was in rant and rave.
3. I asked MT to move ride threads to MRF
4. Ride threads and crap threads were moved to MRF
5. Chanceyy had issue with ride threads in MRF and raised issue about no one being able to see them
6. I corrected her saying everyone could see them
7. Chanceyy came up with several reasons why it was a bad idea.
8. I rebutted comments from chanceyy why I thought it was a good idea.
9. Chanceyy called a group who wanted rides threads in MRF elitist. (twice)
10. In a drunken night of partying a group came up with the idea of calling ourselves the Elitist Masters of the Universe. (EMU)
11. posts were made about it
12. All sorts of comments and abuse ranging from the labelled EMUs being childish to masterbaters were directed online.
13. Was explained EMU was a measure of magnetic force (apt named BTW)
14. more pissy comments.
15. poll.
16. threads moved back, with no rides threads in MRF and vote showing MRF was for crap threads, several crap threads showed up and were pd'd.
17. I was phoned and told an outside job would be influenced if I contiuned to pick on chanceyy even though I havent been about to find any abuse directed at chanceyy.
18. everyone calmed down.
19. told MRF posters were responsible for shutting down of social groups.
20. Still no actual evidence of alleged abuse.
21. SG being shut down due to bugs/ irresponsible behaviour????? (still confused over this one.
If any mod wants to PM me any posts where I have abused anyone in the MRF then fill my mailbox. I cant find them.
BTW. somewhere in there. there was a snr mod flinging abuse left right and centre and that was ignored. Even when another SNR mod was notified of it I got the response - I dont care.
Feel free to correct me, cause I really dont get it.
(might have to start using ACTUAL EXAMPLES rather than broad general statements. I am not that smart)

haha yeah true, I know people just love talking crap, and of course gossip is all the rage, you just have to look at how many womens mags are sold each week.
As for flogging the dead horse, I wasn't flogging it when it died and I wasn't flogging it after, I deliberately stayed out of the shit fight because I didn't want to get into a flaming match, but I can flame with the best of them. I just prefer to remain civil and keep my "opinions" to myself if I know it will add fuel to the fire. there were a few people who were trying to let the fire go out by not commenting even though of course people will quickly jump to one side or the other.
Joining in is what I came to this site for originally, and when I decide not to join in I will quietly slip away and just ride my bike.

There are several alternative bike forums operating at the moment. That's not to say they are any better. Key attributes of a good site would have to be content, which on this site is pretty damned good and users being able to discuss their passions, passionately, expressing their opinions freely. That is where this site is currently letting users down. As with any gradual shift away from a website, this website will slowly lose market share and revenue.
Site builders should always evaluate whether their actions are appealing to their users and ensuring the future of the site.

One word has stuffed this idea of seperate forum "exclusive".And the fact it was percieved as such, mainly through a glitch in the system which meant unless you joined or had sufficient credit you couldn't post, obviously this was not the way it was meant to work, but beyond the control of us mere mortals, unless we subscribed.
Seems maybe the social group idea was being deleted anyway even before we managed to create one, albeit the percieved crap etc helped it to be scrapped, and brought it forward.
Obvously 2 strong willed minds clashed and it sky rocketed, and bloody good on them for having differing views, that is a free world ideal, imagine if we allfollowed along baaaaa, sound springs to mind.Shit who cares if some guys vote greens, labour, national next month,I won't be upset,I would be if I was told vote this party.Similarities here anyone,do as I say not as I do.

Are you wanting to move the threads ... you don't have to copy and paste to not lose content .. they can be moved in with eveything in them .. including title ... all that happens is the place they are stored is moved .. e.g. rant and rave ... or ride reports etc.
