Booked and paid, who else is coming along?

I wil have my tyre machine in my trailer, if any one needs tyre fitting on the day?

Can supply Continental tyres to any one requiring them for the day, can fit them on the day at the track.

Drop by my trailer anyway, and check out all the accesories in it these days, a real portable SHOP for the racer type person

The inaugural "Slow Race" was held at the August track day at lunch time. The brave contestants lined up on one side of pit lane and inched across to the retaining wall on the other side. The last one to the wall won and if you put your feet down you were out.
We might change the direction this time, but the nuts and bolts will be the same. It is a good display of bike skills!
Shaun has organised the prize for the winner (thanks Shaun)

One afternoon session on a fully set up chassis kit K6 GSXR 600 from moto-dynamix

Sore kneck, sore back sore knees, sore wrist and hands... And I didn't even fall off! It was an excellent day! Man the short track is tiring, I'd always thought the more corners the better, but after riding the short track I think the long back straight and the long sweeping turn and short straight bit before T11 give a nice rest between all the corners. Plus it's fun braking at the end of the back straight.

I had a couple of decent rear end slides coming out of T1, the first one it bucked enough for me to hit my helmet on the screen. I think I was just giving it more lean and gas than what the rear tyre could handle, (it's a Pirelli Diablo and I had it at 32psi cold - if anyone's got any tips/advice). That was in sessions 2 and 3. I didn't push it quite so much after that.

I hadn't ridden track 2 in ages, it took me a while to figure out how to tackle the kink onto the back straight and the different gear changes. It was an interesting change, I look forward to working on it next time I do the short track.

See ya all at the next one. :)

Thanks MotoTT.

I'll post a video or two a bit later.

I took the still camera along this time for something to do between sessions, there's a few photos here:

first time at taupo on somthign bigger then a 400.

much fun.

couldnt get me bridgestones to spin up anywhere, but that just means i wasnt going fast yet.

it was good to see that the white line after the kink/joiner bit had been burnt off, that was fun in the wet last time i saw this track!

Yeah i noticed that and also coming into the last corners you could actually ride across the ripples and there was heaps of grip! Why dont you race that 750! do f3 and f1, those standups were cool haha

Wooohooooooooooooo

4 months out of the track, with few breakdowns with the bike, i was a bit nervous and excited!!
Thanks very much heaps heaps heaps to SueVFR to let me in!

My tyres were a bit square from commuting to the lab and i had never been on track 2: it's awesome, i love it!
Onlycorners, no straight where the bike needs the whole straight to do 170 and break hard because the next corner is already there lol!
Been not pushing too hard the first session, but then found my marks ad my speed, and i really really had so much fun (and this addictive shot of adrenaline :p)

Only problem: riding home in the countryside up at Matakana, with no light, no moon or stars to light the road was quite scary!!! 20km/h in twisties in the dark is quite a exercice lol!

Thanks MotoTT again, was an awesome day again!!!

Thanks, but I don't think so. :p

Anyway, here's the footage I got from session 3 of the yellow group. It was a fun session, I followed another sv650 (silver 2003 onwards model) for a fair bit, lost him behind some other riders, caught him again, etc, eventually passed him then he passed me again on the last lap. I didn't get his name (or forgot :o) but he came up and had a chat afterwards, said it was fun.

Here's the first half. I think there's sinful at 6:30, jrandom at 7:20 and DMNTD at 9:30 (passing me at the end of pit straight then disappearing, looks like you're comfortable on the new bike):

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/PpqJEAmwdeg&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/PpqJEAmwdeg&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Here's the second half, I had a bit of a slide at 1:00, caught the other sv650 at about 2:30, pass him around 4:50, then he passes me back at 8:30. Apart from the other sv, this second video is pretty empty.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/joMXxtbH0DY&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/joMXxtbH0DY&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Here's the first half. I think there's sinful at 6:30, jrandom at 7:20 and DMNTD at 9:30 (passing me at the end of pit straight then disappearing, looks like you're comfortable on the new bike):
Yeah I'll get there! It certainly was interesting trying to learn how to ride the 600 but ended up learning a bit on Friday.
Have decided to take it the next step now and have just acquired a race license so bring on Clubmans!

Thanks, but I don't think so. :pGo on....you were riding really well! I've watched you improve over the months. Now I know who you are.

Was so cool to see everyone riding smooth and safe. Can see why CHOPPA won the VMCC winter series.:first: He must have a wheelbarrow when he's not on a bike.

At first I thought Betty was constipated, then she passed something.:bleh:

Thanks MotoTT for yet another awesome day.:sunny:

God my arse looks big in that Erik !
Have come to the conclusion that a helmet cam might be the only way to go with the triple !
Here's the footage i got of group 4 when i took H out for a spin on the back !
The vibrations are way out there and the tank mount aint much better, so i'm at a loss to solve it !

cheers guys for the awesome day and keeping up on 2 wheels....

i do have to ask though who was on the black bike that almost crashed into the tyres where the camera lady was?! she was shitting herself, i explained it was most likely target fixation as you pretty much just rode off the track then managed to keep it up to get onto the back straight  funnest part of my day

Here I am again thanking you... But Seriously, Fireball and Goblin you are both amazing woman. Thank you for traveling to Taupo, lugging the fire exginushers and climbing up into the posts. Standing in the freezing wind and being on alert, eyes 270 degrees. Rushing into the pits for a quick sandwich, coffee and pee and back out again! Hours of watching and being on alert and so professional with it. Thank you very much.
Matt Bleck and Kiwifruit, again you helped people who wanted to learn and you also helped some who gave themselves the learn! Thank you both very much.

It was great to meet so many new people and see old friends. Newbee to track days, Matt from Tauranga, on an immaculate 1098 and nicely co-ordinating leathers, showed us how its done and won the "Slow Race", joining Paul Brown in the Motott Halls of Fame.

Thank you Motodynamics and Bayride Triumph
Thank you Boyd Motorcycles too.
Thank you all for making it a great day.

Sue

...(it's a Pirelli Diablo and I had it at 32psi cold - if anyone's got any tips/advice).....
Get rid of the Diablos.
I used to get "let-go's" from mine regularly.
Been sweet since I started using other rubber.

mate nothing wrong with diablos! bit much pressure, id go to 29 cold. There are ofcoarse other tyres that grip better but you can be assured you can stay with pirelli! Try a supercorsa if your gonna do alot of trackdays, ive tested all brands of tyres and there has only been 1 other tyre that has been on the same par as pirelli but they are to expensive haha

I'll try 29psi next time. What pressure should I have in the front Diablo Rosso (rear is just a plain Diablo)? Leave it at 30psi or drop it as well? I haven't had any problems with it yet.

Fish had a Diablo on his VTR that he got out of a bike shops rubbish bin and that was interesting...the VTwin seemed to not smoke it up too much...

Just play around with the pressures, i prefer lower pressures cause the tyres spin less but they can bounce a bit, id keep 29 in the front but play around with the back, some guys are running low 20s in pirellis

Other being any other or anything specific?

i went back to Michelins; a Road Sport up front & a Road on the rear.
perhaps as close as you can get to erik's current set-up, without going full Sports rubber?
i still get 'drifts' and lil' slides on track (had some nice lil' slides thru' the gorge on Monday too:devil2:), but def no sudden "let-go's" since leaving the Diablos.

i'm keen to try Contis next, might go for the SportAttacks.

We're all in the same boat; I suspect that the gentleman taking the pictures this time was somewhat inexperienced in photographing motorcycles on a racetrack.

If we all bombard the BRB lady (http://www.brbshots.com/index.php) with requests for her photos to be put up, I'm sure she'll provide plenty of sexy shots showing off our riding prowess.
