Followed by three feet of bright yellow flames coming out of the exhausts.

It's either got a display unit fitted and he put on a show - or it's running slightly rich.

Now this is a post I can disagree with you on MBB... Harleys rock... and as for the flame... it was probably just the pure raw power of the big V Twin at a touch over half throttle... no gimmicks, no show - is just wot it is :)

A hole in the header will do that too. I had a header bolt fall out once. Heading home at night down the Southern Motorway every time I buttoned off the throttle I had a footlong flame coming out the back. Looked cool but prolly not too good for the engine.
