The reason politicians try so hard to get re-elected is that they would hate to have to make a living under the laws they've passed.
I believe that the 'powers' that sit in parliament have forgotten that they are elected to see to it that NZ is the way we want it, not the way they want it.
Regardless of which side you support, and I realise that nothing said here will change things, but is there a groundswell against ego-driven politics beginning?

Most of our current government have never had a real job in the private sector let alone a business .
They have never had to scrimp & save,worry whether to pay the phone bill, the power bill or the mortgage, they have never had to worry how they are going to find the money for the staff wage bill or the GST ot the creditors
They have been cocooned within the hallowed walls of academia or parliament . Would you want to go back into the real world if you were them , That explains the philosophy of election bribes, to hell with the cost buy the votes to keep us in power & insulated from the real world

Sue Bradford's forced change to Section 59...whilst passed under the guise of a 'conscience' vote, it was hardly welcomed by Parliament initially, and is still opposed by some 85% of NZers polled on the subject.
By 'ego-driven' I mean anything done by a polly of any stripe that is designed more to stroke/bolster their own sense of importance, than any real need.

I concur.

Most of our current politicians are incapable of holding down a real job in the real world. Presuming they would even be hired to a private sector job paying an equal salary to the outrageous packages they are on.

There will be once the cost of the Emissions Taxation Scam sinks in for the average voter. A rushed, ill thought-out piece of legislation rammed through by Clark so she can "lead the world" and get her job at the UN.

So what you are saying is that all useful, desirable laws are already in place...and that govts the world over have out-lived their usefulness?
