I've gotta do a road trip to see family at Xmas. Just wondering what the trip from Hamilton to Dunedin and back would be like on a brand new Intruder VL250LC. I'm thinking of selling my GN250 for a VL250. Cant afford to upgrade to a larger bike in the next 12 months.
Any thoughts would be appreciated on how you find the VL250 on a long trip, and any comments on what I should take on the trip for maintenance/punctures etc apart from the usual clothing thing.
Thanks.

I have a VL250 myself, all I can say is go do it and have a great time.

Oil, plugs, spare headlamp and a whole heap of getting out there

Have a great trip dude, post some feedback on how it went, just look after yourself.

Take care, ride safe and eat pies

drymartini, you would love it, your bike can and will sit on 120 all day if needed, they are a fun bike to ride, load it up ride to the conditions and enjoy....

It'll be less of a fun ride if you want to do the proper run in on the engine and you haven't finished it by then. And that'd be asking for your 1000km service while you're out on the trip. Should be a fun ride though..

If you can do your first thousand K before you go, this will let you get used to the new bike, and also get your first service in with your own dealer, let them know your intentions when you take the bike for a service, get them to show you how to adjust and lube the chain, and get any tips they may have on any basic maintenance you can do for your self, plugs shouldnt give you any problems on a new four stroke, get a pack rack fitted and a pair of saddle bags, as for parts there are suzuki dealers up and down the country, and they all should carry all the basic parts you will need.
just travel at your own pace, allow plenty of stops, break the trip up into manageable legs, ( I did 800 km in one day on my beema it nearly did me in, I should have broken it into two days and enjoyed it more.) post a thread about your trip before you head out you may get some offers of a nights stay with some of the KBers down country, this gives you the oppertunity to meet some of the community of KB.
If you have the time down one coast and back up the other on both Islands would be a cool trip.
And enjoy the Ride Dude.
